1. Bookstore And Restaurant

City: Wellfleet, MA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (508) 349-3154
Address: 50 Kendrick Ave.

Description: This comfortable eatery, which enjoys views of Wellfleet Harbor, is so popular we can almost guarantee that you’ll have to wait for a table in summer and sometimes in the fall as well. Bring your appetite for baked stuffed lobster, Portuguese seafood stew, or fried Wellfleet oysters. There’s a raw bar, and for landlubbers there are pastas, soups, sandwiches, and salads. In fine weather, try for a table on the deck, and enjoy the gentle breeze off the harbor. It’s open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner all year.

2. The Duck Creeke Tavern Room

City: Wellfleet, MA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (508) 349-7369
Address: 70 Main St.

Description: The Duck Creeke Tavern Room offers an eclectic menu and entertainment, featuring piano, blues, and jazz ensembles. The Chart Bar, overlooking the pond at the rear of the building, has its walls decorated with local marine charts and is a favorite gathering place in the evening for regulars and newcomers alike. You need not be staying at the Inn at Duck Creeke to eat in one of its two restaurants, the other being Sweet Seasons. We prefer this one for its simplicity in both food (seafood, steaks, chowders, and pasta) and decor. The tavern offers a children’s menu and serves dinner Tue through Sun during the season; it’s closed from mid-Oct through late May.

4. The Lighthouse

City: Wellfleet, MA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (508) 349-3681
Address: 317 Main St.

Description: This casual restaurant is one of those old standbys regulars return to again and again. The food is not fancy but good and reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is friendly. It’s a great place to take kids. The young ones can get hot dogs and you can eat oyster rolls, cioppino, pesto pasta with shrimp, or one of the blackboard specials. The Lighthouse is open year-round for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

5. Mac’S Shack

City: Wellfleet, MA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (508) 349-6333
Address: 91 Commercial St.

Description: Brothers Mac and Alex Hay have solidified their reputation in the heart of Wellfleet with the success of Mac’s Shack. Oceanic cravings are addressed by dishes like steamers, mussels, grilled fish, and fried clams, while carnivores can opt for a steak or burger. The sushi is a big draw, and the raw bar outside is usually crowded. The restaurant also has its liquor license so the days of BYOB are a thing of the past. Open for lunch and dinner from mid-June to mid-Oct, Mac’s Shack sits on a small inlet just down the street from the more casual but equally fun Mac’s Seafood on the harbor.

6. Pearl

City: Wellfleet, MA
Category: Restaurants
Telephone: (508) 349-2999
Address: 250 Commercial St.

Description: From the creator of Roobar, the Pearl takes the place of the former Captain Higgins Restaurant on Wellfleet Harbor and is probably best known so far for its eco-friendly approach in its construction and operation. The menu includes the obvious—seafood—as well as steaks, sandwiches, and burgers. Pearl is open daily at 11 a.m. for lunch and dinner.

7. P.J.’S Family Restaurant

Try one of their huge fish sandwiches followed by some soft-serve ice cream. The take-out window at P.J.’s is always bustling; place your order, and sit outside at a picnic table. Or you can sit inside in the comfortable dining room. During the high season the restaurant serves lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and until 3 p.m. during the week. Whether you drop by in the morning for smoked salmon Benedict or come at night for pan-fried sole with lemon caper butter, you’ll appreciate the addition of this year-round eatery to the Lower Cape dining scene. The Wicked Oyster is closed on Wed.
