Description: Better get plenty of rest the night before you plan to attack this 50,000-square-foot mall, considered to be one of the finest in the Midwest. The building is as historical as some of its contents; 60 years ago it was a stable for Thoroughbred horses, including the 1938 Kentucky Derby winner, Lawrin. Today 350 dealers display their wares, which include European antiques, primitives, stained glass, vintage housewares, Oriental porcelain, estate jewelry, military collectibles, and more. The mall is open daily, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Some vendors specialize in one category, such as original oil paintings or Christmas decorations, but most offer an engaging array of goods. And just as you’ve reached sensory overload, there’s a cozy cafe in the mall to offer a place to sit down to some tasty food. The Bloomsbury Bistro’s menu changes weekly, but expect to find items such as veggie lasagna and chicken salad along with soups and wraps. Homemade desserts include pies and German chocolate cake. The bistro is open 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mon through Sat and is closed Sun.
