Description: The Dunhill is the city’s only Historic Landmark Hotel and only member of Historic Hotels of America. Step back to the era when grand hotels occupied the city. The Dunhill opened in 1929 as the Mayfair Manor and wowed the city with its unheard-of 10 stories featuring private baths, telephones, and radios. After the Depression and a series of owner mismanagements, the hotel closed in 1981. Preservationists later returned the hotel to its original elegance and it reopened in 1988. Located two blocks from the Square on North Tryon Street, the Dunhill is a quick walk from financial institutions, top-notch restaurants, and cultural sites such as the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center, Spirit Square, Levine Museum of the New South, and Discovery Place. The 60 guest rooms in this Gilded Age hotel are elegantly furnished in 18th-century decor and feature original art, four-poster beds, custom draperies, and sitting areas. Other nice touches include turndown service, valet parking, limousine service, health club privileges , and a complimentary continental breakfast. Splurging? Request the penthouse suite, which includes a dining area, fireplace, step-down whirlpool, Oriental rugs, original marble floors, and a double balcony with incredible views of the city. Casual pub fare and more formal dining are offered in the hotel, along with 24-hour room service. Other amenities include a refrigerator stocked with complimentary beverages; and bathrobes and slippers.
