Description: The newest addition to the CMC system, the Levine Children’s Hospital opened in late 2007 on the campus of Carolinas Medical Center. The 240,000-square-foot facility is the largest children’s hospital between Washington, D.C., and Atlanta. The hospital features 234 beds and was built at a cost of $85 million.The hospital offers more than 30 specialized pediatric services including kidney, liver, and heart transplants; blood and marrow transplant; cardiac and cancer care; neurosurgery; rehabilitation service; and the highest designated level of neonatal intensive care.The hospital caters to the needs of families. There are hotel-like rooms, complete with showers, for parents to stay overnight, as well as resource centers and family lounges throughout the facility. There’s a playroom on every floor, a rooftop terrace, and a teen room for occupying brothers and sisters of patients.
