Getting Here, Getting Around - Coastal Oregon, Oregon

Getting Here, Getting Around

Bordered by the Coast Range mountains to the east and besieged by the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Oregon Coast requires some effort to get to and some effort to travel once you’re here. Of course, the remoteness of the Coast is mostly a boon. The natural landscape is varied and dramatic and relatively unspoiled. The human landscape has also benefited from being remote. It hasn’t completely succumbed to the modern project of making every town look exactly alike.

Traveling the Coast may bring some surprises. Parts of the road fall into the sea, sometimes closing it. Curvy two-lane highways make high speeds dangerous. Bends in the road may reveal views so amazing that they demand you pull over to look at them. The lesson here: Don’t be in a big hurry.
