Description: The National Riding Stables, located at Artillery Ridge Campground, is best known for its two-hour battlefield ride where riders listen on headsets to a CD prepared by a licensed battlefield guide (see the Gettysburg National Military Park chapter). The stable also boards horses, and box stalls and corrals are available. Artillery Ridge sits about a mile south of town on Route 134 (Taneytown Road), and it’s also where you can find the Gettysburg Miniature Battlefield Diorama (see the Attractions chapter). If you have little ones, the campground offers pony rides on Sunday as one of its scheduled activities. Description: Dubbs Karate Academy has been teaching area residents the martial arts since 1989, and you can sometimes see people practicing their moves through the floor-to-ceiling windows that front York Street. Children and adults can earn their black belt here, and children as young as age three can start off with kinderkarate. Classes are held for beginners, and children and adults are taught in separate classes. Self-defense and self-confidence training are also offered, and the academy sells martial-arts supplies and has a pro shop. Dubbs is open every day but Sunday.

Description: These state-of-the-art theaters opened in early 2006, and they’re located at the Gettysburg Village, which consists of an outlet mall, a TGI Friday’s restaurant, and lodging at the Country Inn & Suites. Gettysburg Village is located just off the Baltimore Street exit of US 15, and from town you follow Baltimore Street for a few miles to reach it. Village Ten theaters feature full stadium seating, wall-to-wall wide screens in every room, Dolby digital sound, high-back rockers, and flip-up cup holders. Armrests flip up so two theatergoers can turn their seats into a loveseat. The cinemas also have party rooms and offer VIP ticketing.

Description: The Gettysburg Recreation Park consists of 52 acres situated within the borough. The park has a 20-station outdoor fitness trail, 7 baseball diamonds, 2 basketball courts, tennis courts, and a football field. There are also three playgrounds within the park, with one specifically designed for children age four and younger. The park entrance is across from Gettysburg Hospital, and it can be reached from Baltimore Street by turning westward onto Breckenridge Street and then turning onto Long Lane.
