Description: The Waccamaw Center is a public, nonprofit agency that handles any sort of mental-health issue on an outpatient basis. Fees are established on a sliding scale; you pay only what you can afford based on income and expenses, and most insurances are accepted. Staff is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to emergencies and crises. Both clinics offer adult services, child and adolescent therapy, alcohol and drug abuse counseling, programs for the chronically mentally ill, and emergency stabilization.The center is continuously developing special community programs to institute prevention of growing mental-health problems. The school-based program operates out of a number of Grand Strand schools, offering on-site help to children and their families. An Employee Assistance Program offers mental-health services to business and industry on a contractual basis. The Waccamaw Center also will refer clients to an appropriate inpatient facility if it is necessary.
