Where a need is identified, this group isn’t afraid to get its hands dirty making the park and river a better place to be. They also hold an annual boat and gear swap and sale during the city’s Earth Day celebration in Manchester. Membership costs as little as $20 a year.

City: Richmond, VA
Category: Parks & Recreation
Address: 9900 Ridgefield Parkway
Description: This Far West End park has tangles of multiuse dirt trails that turn back on themselves, but they currently are not opened to mountain biking. The county is talking with Richmond MORE to try to make the park a mountain-biking destination in the future.A two-level duck pond that’s more likely teeming with Canada geese has a wooden boardwalk across the dam so you can be right in the thick of the wildlife action. The pond is encircled by a paved path with benches, and there’s a nature pavilion at one end for leisurely viewing or fishing. An impressive playground, soccer fields, and a fitness trail complete the picture.
