Description: This school dates from a one-­room school established by Seventh-­Day Adventists in Denver in 1913. Description: The oldest Montessori in Denver (there are other independent Montessori schools in Metro Denver), this school has about 275 boys and girls, ages 3 through 12. Description: One of Denver’s more well-­known Catholic private high schools, Mullen was founded in 1931 as a home for orphaned boys. In 1965 it became J. K. Mullen Prep, a college-­prep school for boys. It has been coeducational since 1989. It’s run by the Christian Brothers of St. John the Baptist de LaSalle, a religious teaching order. Today it has a population of more than 1,000 students.

Its population is currently at about 1,350, including 500 girls.

Description: St. Mary’s Academy is a Catholic, independent school founded in 1864 by the Sisters of Loretto. In 1875 it awarded the first high-­school diploma in the Colorado Territory. St. Mary’s emphasizes values-­based education, small classes, strong curriculum, personalized attention, and community service.
