Description: The Shamrock’s log cabins exude summer-camp charm, and taking a stroll down the big lawn that leads to the beach will revive buried feelings of pleasure at the thought that you don’t have to go home because you’re going to sleep right there. Only this time, you’ll skip the s’mores and enjoy a massage or relax in the spa. The cabins all have stone fireplaces and kitchenettes. There are also motel rooms; these too have fireplaces, and some are suites with Jacuzzis. All rooms, no matter where they are, have phone, cable TV, daily paper delivery, and amazing views. Pets are welcome in the cabins only (for an additional fee). All units are nonsmoking.

Description: The Landmark Inn is a charming, small hotel conveniently set within walking distance of the Florence Events Center and the notably shoppable Old Town district. Not only will you find lovely views of the mountains, sand dunes, and Siuslaw River, but you will enjoy them from nicely decorated rooms, 12 in all, some suites with sitting rooms and kitchens, and spas. Guests may use a traditional Finnish cedar sauna that sits in a tiny pine grove away from the main building. The Landmark Inn was built in 1998 on top of a knoll above Old Town. Beware the steeply graded driveway, especially going down. The pavement bears the scars of hasty motorists who scraped the bottoms of their vehicles. And you can smoke outdoors only.

Description: The River House is not luxurious, but it is clean, quiet, and really friendly (they have cookies and coffee in the lobby for those who wander in), and sometimes that’s what you need the most. The River House is tucked under the bridge spanning the Siuslaw River in Florence; it’s just to the west of Old Town. There are phones, TVs, high-speed Internet, microwaves, refrigerators, free in-room coffee and tea and a continental breakfast is served daily. Children under age 12 stay for free. Pets must stay home, however. They also have an alluring spa.

Description: This may be the spot to rest your head after a long day of exploring the dunes. You’ll also be able to help yourself to a continental breakfast and swim in the indoor pool. Pets are allowed in some rooms for a little extra, and some rooms are wheelchair accessible.

Description: Usefully set just east of US 101, the Edgewater boasts that it’s the only waterfront motel in Coos Bay; it even has its own fishing dock. Many of the rooms in this hotel have spa tubs, kitchenettes, and balconies overlooking the bay. They’ll provide you with a continental breakfast and VCR; you can also take advantage of their exercise room or the indoor pool to rejuvenate your road-weary bones. They also have a business center with wireless Internet access. Because it’s just off the highway, the Edgewater is a little quieter than some of the motels right on the US 101 strip, but you can still walk to the Coos Bay waterfront or poke around downtown.

Description: Magnificent views of the ocean, Face Rock, and the Coquille River Lighthouse make this 74-room resort a great place to bring the family for a stay at Bandon. In addition to the beach access—which even includes its own beach house—the Inn at Face Rock is right next to a pleasant 9-hole golf course. Many of the suites have fireplaces, king- and queen-size beds, kitchenettes, and private patios. You’ll find coffeemakers, microwaves, and refrigerators in other rooms. There is also a banquet room, a heated outdoor spa, and an indoor pool for the use of guests. Some good bargains may be had: There are discounts for groups and packages, and best of all, during the winter season, prices for many of the rooms drop.

Description: Brought to you by the people at the Table Rock Motel, these comfortable lodgings are a restful and economical alternative to motel living. Three three-bedroom suites accommodate up to six people, and up to four people can stay in the two-bedroom suite. Beds are queen-size; all bedrooms have private bathrooms; and all suites provide fully equipped kitchens, laundry areas, and cable TV, VCRs, and high-speed Internet. Rent the places by the week: Not only will you save money but you’ll need at least that long to explore the wildlife reserve, play on the beach, golf, windsurf, and see the whales. Keep the pets at home and the cigs in the car.

Description: Straddling Beach Loop Road and making the most of its breathtaking location, the Sunset provides a full array of services, including a restaurant and lounge. Some rooms have kitchens and fireplaces; some are right on the ocean; some rooms are designated for pets. You can sleep in standard or queen-size beds, and you can choose from among economy rooms or full suites. Cable TV and laundry facilities are available. And there are wheelchair-accessible rooms. If you stay in the units across the road, you can find some excellent bargains. It goes without saying that it’s easy to get to the beach—just walk down the stairs. The Sunset offers beach house rentals in addition to its motel services.

Description: What this little motel lacks in luxury, it makes up for in its dramatic setting. Next to a wildlife sanctuary and overlooking Table Rock, Face Rock, and the other formations off the Bandon shore, the Table Rock Motel offers some rooms with kitchenettes, coffeemakers, radios, and refrigerators. All units have cable TV and DVD players; though you probably will be too busy exploring to turn it on. High-speed Internet access is available in rooms and a lobby computer is available for your use. Pets are allowed for a fee of $10 per pet per day.

Description: This appealing motel is right across from a golf course, right on the beach, and just right for families. Beautiful ocean vistas are visible from all the rooms. All units have cable TV, HBO, and wireless Internet. You’ll find a variety of bed sizes from doubles to kings. A number of the rooms have kitchens and sleeping lofts, making them ideal for longer visits. Its moderate prices ($98 for a queen-size bed and kitchen unit) can make the Windermere a good value for the vacationing family, but leave the family dog at home—they don’t take pets.

Description: Port Orford is the westernmost point in the lower 48 states, and this friendly motel might be the westernmost building. The Castaway overlooks historic Port Orford, and the ocean beyond from every room, and offers both suites and rooms with sun porches and decks from which you can enjoy the view. Amenities include beach access, easy walking distance to town, cable TV, WiFi, and nonsmoking rooms. Well-behaved pets can stay for only $10 per pet per night. The off-season rates are remarkably low.
