Description: The first Beach Boogie & Barbeque was held in 2006 and proved to be so popular, it’s been put on the calendar as an annual event. Held over Labor Day weekend, the three-day event includes a cook-off, free concerts, a car show, outdoor movies, and more. Beach Boogie & Barbeque is held in Valor Park on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base.

Description: This annual event, sponsored by the Horry-Georgetown Home Builders Association, is literally 100,000 square feet of displays concerning home building, design, and decorating. Past shows have offered designer furniture, floor covering, wallpaper, window treatments, whirlpool tubs, doors, stained glass, and mirror ideas. For the yard and garden, plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, pools, spas, and statuary exhibits were on hand. The three-day event featured a list of seminars and workshops that ranged from learning to make garden stepping stones using recycled materials to orchid care to the Plant Doctor Booth, where participants could take a sick plant for care.A one-day ticket for adults is $5. A three-day ticket can be purchased for $8, and children under the age of 14 are admitted free.

Description: This mid-Sept festival began in 1995 and continues to grow. It’s a day of food, music, and arts and crafts—Italian-style. The Sons of Italy and area restaurants that specialize in Italian cuisine bring in the goodies that range from New York–style pizza to pastas. Musical entertainment usually features the smooth sound of the Big Band era, while strolling accordionists provided a little taste of Italy. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the park, and admission is free.

Description: Locals have come to look forward to St. John’s Greek Festival each Sept. The four-day event is held in the fellowship hall and on the church grounds on the corner of US 17 Bypass and 33rd Avenue North, starting on Thursday of the last weekend in Sept. Live Greek music, Greek dancers, and vendors are just part of the draw. Feast yourself on mouthwatering Greek foods such as gyros, roasted lamb, Greek salad, spanikopita, and moussaka, as well as a wide assortment of Greek pastries and breads. Soft drinks, beer, and Greek wines are also available. Try a baklava ice-cream sundae! Admission is just $1 for adults, and kids are free.

Description: This four-hour procession in late Sept features Shrine Temple representatives from six states: West Virginia, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Expect to see a proliferation of wacky go-karts, clowns, and floats traveling along Ocean Boulevard from Sixth Avenue South to 11th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach. The parade usually starts at 9:30 a.m.The event usually brings approximately 4,000 Shrine families to the area. The South Atlantic Shrine Association supports 22 Shriners’ hospitals and three burn institutes.

Description: For one Saturday in mid-Sept, the Pavilions parking garage is filled with the hubbub of hagglers hawking wares. Hundreds of booths set up on every parking level feature household goods, clothing, toiletries, sporting goods, furniture, toys, food, and just plain junk. The sale runs from 7 a.m. to noon, and admission is free.

Description: The hugely successful Pawleys Island Festival of Music and Art usually opens in early Sept and runs for three weeks. Begun in 1991, the festival brings a new theme each season and a veritable plethora of music and art performances at venues throughout the South Strand all the way to the historic port of Georgetown. There are far too many events to list separately, and the schedule changes dramatically from one year to another, but if you are the “artsy” type, rest assured you will not want to miss this. Description: Shrimp and jazz. There are a lot of both at this festival, which has begun to compete with Little River’s Blue Crab Festival in popularity polls. Family-oriented, the event features fine arts and crafts, children’s activities, and an abundance of good food and good music. The lineup of performers offers a broad spectrum of entertainment. Little River is one of the oldest communities in South Carolina, dating back to the 1700s. The festival pays tribute to the history while drawing people in to be a part of today’s community.

The tour is composed of a dozen or more Pawleys Island beach homes—ranging from 19th-century summer cottages to contemporary year-round residences. Unusual artifacts, windswept landscaping, and porches perched on the edge of the Atlantic combine to make this house tour uniquely enjoyable. Description: What started out as a little ol’ family picnic in 1985 has now grown into a full-fledged festival attended by more than 10,000 people each year. It’s a daylong affair in early Oct, with plenty of food and arts and crafts for sale, plus information booths if you need directions. Even during a downpour in 1999, an estimated 9,000 people came out to enjoy homespun crafts, games, and performers under a covered bandstand.Several bands perform, and more than 90 vendors offer everything from hot dogs to rides on an oversized stuffed panda and tiger. This event always coordinates lots of games for children. There is no admission fee. Open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
