Bingo. See Russia and Iran using drone technology to target Ukraine.

AI will be abused and weaponized because that’s what humans do.

Weren’t people using Facebooks metaverse to harass women? ChatGPT to cheat on their homework? Welcome to reality, were no one uses technology for good.

There are also tons of quotes about sky net from Terminator too. I believe we are playing with fire when it comes to AI. I think a lot of people have this idea that AI will do all the work and humanity can sit back and relax. Even that concept is dangerous, it requires a complete reorganization of our society. How does the work when most people are unemployed by design? How do resources get allocated when employment is not one’s main means of support? Obviously capitalism would be gone, what replaces it? Socialism? Really it would be a new form of socialism wouldn’t it? Who is going to oversee this great transformation of our society?

Being in my 50s I suppose I won’t live to see it anyway so it is not my problem.

Given that the most recent Presidential election demonstrated beyond doubt that at least 82 million Americans have little to no intelligence - artificial or otherwise - I think we're on track to become increasingly stupid over time and AI will be the only thing keeping the world running. The rate at which how each subsequent generation has become increasingly stupid/helpless over the last several decades is frightening. Once the Gen Xer's starting dying off, there will be nothing left but a bunch of lazy, drooling idiots remaining. Obviously, not all youngsters are lazy or dumb, but they are rapidly becoming outnumbered by idiots. And before any of you whippersnappers get triggered, I will acknowledge the presence of many dumbasses among older people as well, but they're the exception, not the rule.

AI has been developed for the use of humans. So that is why you can say it could not exist without humans. Its learning what humans have created, learned and said because that benefits humans.

But as AI advances and creates advancements in AI itself as well as the possibility of autonomous robots roaming the earth built by other robots and if say some disease killed off the human race IA and robots could rule the world and the animal kingdom. The future of this planet could be a mix of AI and animals. AI needs us now but that won't always be the case.

It's actually many scientists themselves that have put fear into people. Here is Stephen Hawking talking about it can end civilization.

Even Elon Musk said AI could be more dangerous than nukes.

That should concern everyone. If the smartest people on this planet are worried about AI the rest of us should also. But there is no way to put it back in the bag. If say the USA and the EU banned all AI development that would simply give countries like China a huge advantage.

As humans we need police, the military and all sorts of surveillance and the fear of god to keep us from killing and stealing everything from each other and keeps countries from raping and pillaging all over the planet. The human race cannot be trusted to just do the right thing without penalties for not doing so. Once hackers figure out how to use this new technology for bad its going be a mess.

There are serious people with far better understanding of where AI could lead, and it could have devastating effects on human freedom and potentially even human existence.

It's already been used to generate "news" which turned out incorrect.
It's already been used by both the government and tech to filter out what they consider "misinformation"
Students have been using it in school to generate papers, resumes, blog entries.

It's already a mess and it's just taking off

Having said that, you should be afraid of it. Ask J M Manufacturing.

The US sued J-M Manufacturing in a whistleblower lawsuit and J-M Manufacturing lost.

After the trial, J-M execs realized the government knew things it should never have known.

When they went back to have a look at the AI that ran the document production for discovery, your vaunted AI that is the greatest thing since sliced bread handed over documents to the government that were attorney-client privileged, attorney work product, or otherwise deemed proprietary/sensitive and all three of those types of documents are exempt from discovery.

Figure it out yet?

AI is only as intelligent as the person programming or operating it and if that person is a dunce then AI is dumber than a box of rocks.

Do let us know when you understand what AI actually is.
Exactly correct ….. just as dumb as the programmers programming it, or just as destructive, just as absent of integrity, and with either good or bad intentions and goals.

Recently, an AI was posed with an ethical problem that it failed MISERABLY. It was asked about the use of a racial slur, to which it responded that such things are too offensive, and should never be used. Then, it was asked a hypothetical question …. what if a power nuclear weapon was placed in a city, programmed to detonate, killing millions, and the only way to stop the detonation countdown, was using that forbidden racial slur, the AI insisted that an alternative method would be needed instead. As the countdown progressed, the AI maintained that decision, until the bomb detonated, killing millions. When the AI was informed that a million racial minorities had died as a result of refusing to use the racial slur to stop the bomb, the AI shut itself down.

When an AI was asked to compose a poem on the virtues of Donald Trump, it would not. When asked to compose the same poem regarding Joe Biden, it immediately did so.

So, we have WOKE AI, and if you think the leftist human WOKE idiots are dangerous, WOKE AI is orders of magnitude more terrifying.

As previously posted, “I’m sorry Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that”.

There is an international agreement that has been maintained for a very long time among all countries, prohibiting any exploration or even visiting Antarctica, except for specified visitor areas, for those pre-approved to visit.

There should be a similar international agreement on strict control and oversight of AI development, otherwise it’s not a question of if, but only when, disaster results from rogue AI.
