That's pretty sluggish smh. I assume that the growth was in Baldwin,Madison,Lee,Tuscaloosa, and Shelby counties.

Probably, but they don't have the county populations listed yet. I seem to remember those came out in March last year, with the city numbers following in May or so. The government shutdown could delay things this year.

Alabama really is sluggish when you consider Texas gained right at 400,000 during the past year, and North Carolina was >100,000.

Yeah compared to other states it’s a bit anemic.
Don’t think the state could handle greater growth but Huntsville and North Alabama
is going to find out.

And Limestone. It has seen substantial growth lately, as the eastern suburbs of Huntsville and Madison. Limestone isn't a huge county, but should be around 100,000 when the 2020 census is over and done with. It's sort of the Shelby County of north Alabama.

Every time I drive through Spanish Fort there’s new subdivisions being built. I don’t know where all of those people are coming from, but surely they aren’t all coming from Mobile.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of where they are coming from.

My gut says most are coming from other parts of AL, which would explain why the statewide growth numbers are sluggish.

Amazing what a great college football program will do for you. Because there dang sure isn't anything else special about Tuscaloosa.

Last time I remember Tuscaloosa like Auburn-Opelika has way more going on economic development wise than their respective universities. Furthermore, Tuscaloosa has great leadership with Walt Maddox that is positioning that city to continue to grow into a strong secondary anchor of the Central Alabama region.
