wondering if anybody else thinks the number (amount) of these plates is excessive....nine years ago, there were 56 and there seem to be 93 varieties now available... https://azdot.gov/motor-vehicles/veh...ctions-gallery

what really got me upset just today was seeing a "Barrett Jackson" plate for the first time....I believe B-J is a for-profit, private company......why is ADOT promoting a non-public, profit-making company?.....I'll certainly listen to any good reasons!......if B-J gets a plate, doesn't every other private company in the state deserve one!!??

I realize a large percentage of the extra amount paid by the driver for the special plate goes to these various organizations.....yes, there are some worthy groups who benefit from this arrangement......and I pity the state legislator who may try to reasonably rein this in and incur the "what about the children?" wrath of voters.....former state senator Steve Farley, I believe, led a cause to limit these plates several years ago, though I don't think this was the reason he isn't in the state house anymore

I believe Texas entirely abandoned specialized plates a few years ago and that's why they are nothing but very plain black-and-white now......seems like they got fed up with this racket (?) and said to hell with specialized plates.....

if anybody has additional comments, explanation, or resources for me to educate myself about this, thanks

I look at specialized plates are part of the 1st Amendment and private charitable organizations. Keep on creating them, I'm for it. You think Arizona has a lot, our neighbor Colorado has over 133+ special license plates. We need one for Granite Mountain Hotshot crew.

As for Texas, you can create tons of custom ones. https://www.myplates.com/

I get upset at things like world hunger, war, widespread disease, crimes against people, poverty. It sure doesn't take much to make you upset! Maybe you shouldn't leave the house any more.

BTW, you are incorrect about Texas. Texas has a large number of specialized plates, as Hschlick84 so nicely pointed out.

You can file the above under "additional comments".

Why exactly does it bother you? It certainly injures no one. So what if it's commercial? I don't know where the money goes, but I would hope it goes to local government, maybe to maintaining roads?

Arizonans seem so anti-tax that it seems like an easy way to collect a little money.

This. Who cares?

Also, do you think the Barrett-Jackson plate goes to benefit Barrett-Jackson? They're raising for the American Heart Association.

If the base Arizona plate wasn't so dog-ugly, there wouldn't be such a rush to specialty plates (says a person who has a specialty plate).

This is the best one IMO, but yes they do need a redesign of the standard plate

I'm thinking something very simple. Like a teal plate with some zig zags in purple and/or gold to represent the mountains and native peoples

Pretty sure the Barrett-Jackson plate is out there because it is one of the largest car auctions in the country and draws in $MILLIONS$ of tax dollars every year. FWIW, the plate revenue goes to the American Heart Association.

Same could be said for the Coyotes/Suns/DBacks/Cardinals plates....or the Phoenix Raceway plate. Why do the Tribes all get a special plate? Why do they break out Veteran plates as "Veteran/Woman Veteran"? Why does the Marine Corps get 3 plates while the other services only have 2? If a University has an online presence in the state, should they get a plate as well or are we limiting it to UofA/ASU/NAU/GCU/MWU? Why would an organization like the Free Masons have their own plate, I am sure someone could get offended by it?

Bigger things to worry about, in my opinion.
