make sure you also check the blinker fluid tank. Notorious leakers in those old Escorts.

I used to have Escorts, they were good little cars, and I bought one thinking it would never be a problem getting it fixed. My town was full of Escort Services.

This poor guy, trying to get to work cheaply and safely and all he catches is flak from you. To answer your question as seriously as possible: Do the headlights work? Do the turn signals and brake lights work? DO THE BRAKES WORK? These are what determines your safety and those around you more than anything. At $400, it probably needs a head gasket, and your antifreeze tank looks like milkshake between the oil and antifreeze. You might get a couple days/weeks out of it. You might get a year, hard to say. Keep the oil topped up, and squirrel away as much as you can. At $400, as long as its driving, it will always be worth $400.
