The Federal Aviation Administration on Saturday ordered U.S. airlines to stop using some Boeing 737 Max 9 planes until they were inspected, less than a day after one of those planes lost a chunk of its body in midair, terrifying passengers until the plane landed safely.
Alaska and United Airlines on Saturday began canceling dozens of flights after grounding their Max 9 fleets so the planes could undergo the federally mandated inspections.
Only the very low Qty specific model of MAX 9 (174 iirc) with the same specs as the failed version. AK already had cleared 18 of their limited suspect fleet (65 iirc) by this morning.
Plenty of Max 9s legally / certified flying in the USA (at this moment)
I see many retired Boeing engineers in my work near Seattle...
The Boeing that over-designed the 747 with quadruple hydraulic system is no more. The McDonnell-Douglas leadership philosophy took over after the merger and we're seeing the results.

How does Boeing live with itself in the future? Maybe Alaska Airlines will be partially redemptive.
Probably not.
This was an entire panel that just went its own way, on a brand-new airplane. It's akin to having a door fall off your car as you drive out of the dealership. Boeing's executives had better offer prayers of thanks that it happened at 16,000 feet and not 30,000.
Six months hence, it'll be a non-issue. People have short memories.
Dunno. We fly a good bit, and will not fly this aircraft. And won’t forget.. Could especially be an issue if things keep happening and stays in news.

If panels keep dropping off, it'll be a hard sell, agreed. I meant to imply "if nothing else happens", that wasn't clear, sorry.
