Mets win 6-4

Frankie scared me again in the 9th. It's never easy when he comes in. He has 18 saves and that's in the top 3 in the NL. The pen almost blew the game for Niese but thank god they didn't . The Mets are now 39-32 and 2.5 games out, thanks to the Nats losing to the Orioles. The bright spot tonight was the 3 run homerun by Davis.

That's because he's not very good.
He strikes out 6% more batters than the average reliever. That's ok. Not great
He walks 8% more batters than the average reliever. That's bad.
He gives up 22% more line drives, that's very bad.

Most any reliever could rack up saves given the opportunity.

Even though Frankie always gets into trouble, he has 18 saves and that's in the top 3 in the NL. He also is pitching to around a 1.50 era in his last several outings.

The Nats lost again so the Mets stay 3.5 back . Braves and Mets are tied for 2nd place. The Marlins lost . Can't believe they lost that game. That team is a disaster. Everyone picked them to be good.

They're 5 games under .500. I projected them to be a couple of games over .500.

That's not much of a difference

The first thing I thought was, it was nice that the Cubs didn't have a five-run rally in the ninth. 17-6 just wouldn't have looked as good in the sports pages.

Then the next thing I thought was, I still miss the old "unbalanced" schedule, when we played the Cubs 18 times a year and it was a genuine rivalry. Now they're just some other team.

Mets are also considering Grant Balfour for the pen. He is a good reliever.
