I read an article in the PC magazine that Apple TV is going by the wayside. Considering that Apple TV is quite expensive in comparison to other streaming devices, do any of you have any suggestions/recommendations as to which device I should buy? However, I’m not a techie, so please use laymen terms.
Apple TV, in my opinion, isn't going anywhere. It is overdue for an update and the rumors are it is coming soon.

I have Apple TV and the main benefit for me is it displays upscales the content in Dolby Vision or HDR 10. If your TV does not have that or you aren't interested Apple TV+ content, no need to get the device.

You may not need any device at all - most new TV's have built in app's for netflix, hulu, disney+, etc - although mine does not have HBO Max which I did load on my Apple TV

We have a Roku, a Fire stick, and a smart TV. The Roku is the clear winner in our opinion.

UPDATE: We’re moving in Dec 29! HOORAY!!

Hawaiian Telcom only provides internet and landline phone. Apparently, they offer cable tv only on Oahu. We’re now checking out different tv options. I have the OTA antenna, recommended by Terracore, in my wish list on Amazon. Some internet streaming is much cheaper if no local channels are added. So, we may go that route with the OTA antenna. However, we like the idea of not having an outdoor or indoor antenna, for aesthetic purposes.

Any and all advice are welcomed.

Wishing all of you safe and Happy Holidays!

Judy

Yes. Thank you. I do have that app on my iPad. I used to watch that while living in Florida. That one is my default.

Thank you. Our contractor tried his best to get us in for Christmas. At least he tried. He’s a great guy. He has an excellent reputation. He has had to turn down people because he’s so busy. He said that ours is the fastest he has built.

Congratulations! There have been a few free OTA channels added since my previous post. Though honestly I don't know if I've ever watched them. (Streaming for the win).

Since we are accustomed to paying Spectrum prices, I think we’ll just pay extra for the local channels. With that being said, which streaming service that offers local channels would you recommend. Sports isn’t a big thing anymore, so that’s not a big issue. We already have Netflix and Amazon Prime. Hallmark, Lifetime, ID, History, National Geographic, and Food channels are what we usually watch. I’ve done so much research my head is spinning.
