Criticize, frown, question all you want. I'm just as entitled to my beliefs as others. And for every posting or argument you post that was published, I could give you another that was published that had an opposite opinion. I could also give you stories from other nurses and health professionals that share the same beliefs as my wife and I have. (And yes, we've talked to them about options, but I just came here hoping for others.)

To each his/her own. If you don't have any options to offer me as far as a vaccine friendly doc, save it. To the poster who gave the link for vaccine friendly docs by state, Thanks. I have already seen that list, but it is outdated and not totally accurate. There are only two according to that list, one of which is no longer considered vaccine friendly, and the other is an option that we have tried but were very unhappy with, shall we say, her practices "sanitation" practices.....
As a grandmother of a two year let me add a recent epidemic to consider. Whooping cough is steadily gaining ground again with tragic results. Infants died, just google and you'll see the stats. My husband and myself headed for the closet health dept. to get a booster to protect our baby boy. One child who died caught it from a grandparent who thought "it was just a cough". You have to understand that young infants and children have to get a series of shots over time to build the protection from these diseases. Please recognize why these diseases don't seem to be as prevalent now is because of the widespread acceptance of vaccinations. I grew up in a time when people lived in iron lungs and most people knew someone who had died of a childhood illness. Please do more research for the sake of everyone's children. A very concerned grandmother.

I heard that thanks to conspiracy theories against vaccines, some diseases long thought to be extinct are making a comeback.

While I don't think we can categorically dismiss every single conspiracy theories, since real conspiracies do happen, I think the anti-vaccine conspiracy is an example of ignorance.

With that said, I do think the 2009 bird flu scare was probably a ploy by Tamiflu to make some money. But the childhood vaccinations are absolutely essential. What's "natural" is often not what's good, natural life is nasty, brutish and short.

The difficulty with flu vaccines is that a new one is needed each year and sometimes the strains included in the vaccine do not match well with the strains actually causing illness. There is also the short time frame in which the decision has to be made concerning the strains to include.

If the possibility of a pandemic is ignored and the pandemic happens, the vaccine experts will be criticized for not being more proactive. If the pandemic does not develop, they are accused of crying wolf. It places them in a no win situation.

How do you think the Tamiflu manufacturer was able to manipulate things? Decisions were made based on signals from the flu activity in the Southern hemisphere. How would a pharm company do anything to that info?

There will be available next year vaccines that will include four strains rather than three, by the way.

Anyone know of some pediatricians in town that are lenient when it comes to this?
Have you ever met a doctor that didn't make damn sure their own kids got vaccinated?

yes. I have worked with many healthcare practitioners who do not vaccinate, or vaccinate per schedule. I used to be very involved in the CDPH Immunization branch & state/national Iz coalitions and knew who was & who wasn't.

How many of the "health care practitioners" were physicians, though, especially pediatricians? I suspect there are very few pediatricians who do not vaccinate their own children. In fact, many pediatricians do not accept unvaccinated children in their practices. Why would they do that and not immunize their own kids?

Had you any intellectual curiousity, you could have clicked on the "American Dental Association" link I provided, which states:

Note that the ADA is "the oldest and largest national dental society in the world... the leading source of oral health related information for dentists and their patients."
I read that and ignored it. Of course the government is going to pay them to say that.

Without fluoridation, dentists would have much more business, so that argument is illogical.

Fluoridation caused entire dental schools to close.

http://www.columbia.edu/~kh2214/pape...ts_8_12_09.pdf

"Dentists moved from fluoridated areas to neighboring markets and some dentists may have retrained as specialists. The 8 percentage point change in fluoride exposure from 1974 to 1992 may have led to the loss of 2.1 percent of dental employees, suggesting a substantial net impact of this intervention on the dental profession."

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/11/bu...anted=all&_r=0

The article is about the economics of dentistry, but it includes this statement:

"After peaking at 5,750 in 1982, the number of dental school graduates fell to 4,440 in 2003, as several big dental schools closed their doors."

Feel free to oppose fluoridation, but do not imply that it does not prevent tooth decay. It does. If you do not want it in your drinking water, buy a filter system that removes it.

And yes, now we need to improve access to dentists. The funny thing is that if you see a dentist often and brush and floss, dental insurance costs more than it is worth.

Now, could we get back on topic? If you want to discuss fluoride, start another thread.
