My two cents... I suppose getting a Macy's would be a big deal to people up there as it would be another sign that Huntsville is "arriving." I think all they have up there now is a couple of Dillard's and Belk's as far as big box department stores go. They were making noise about getting a Nordstrom at Bridge Street a few years ago but that fell through. As far as the Macy's at Brookwood closing, you had to be blind not to see it coming. They are likely about to bulldoze the whole mall and turn it into either condos or greenspace or both. I hope the one at the Galleria stays open for the long run because losing that one as well would not be good. Cities in Birmingham's "tier" all have Macy's locations and them leaving our market completely may not be a good sign of the viability of the Bham retail market. If we can't keep midscale Macy's in town, what does that say about high end Saks on down the road? They've been closing locations recently too.

Macy has not been a midscale store in fifteen to twenty years. There is no market in that geography for what they are selling.

Only the home store was still going well. Macy is also closing all over the US each year now for years, and that is about US retail and Macy, not the Birmingham market. They have not been opening stores in a long time.

This store is closing it is not moving. That is not how that works. If another pops up in a smaller area that does not even support one Dillard store well then that is another example of why US retail is in trouble.

If you do a google or two, you will find that there were rumors that claimed to be fact that Von Maur was going to open another location in Alabama. That has been quite a few years ago right after Von Maur opened at the Galleria. The rumor mill in Alabama is what is actually flourishing.

Bro, come on. We all know that would be red banner front page al.com Paul Gattis news if that happened. Just the fact they got something that we "lost" would wind their rockets up tighter than a 10,000 white collar job mega project bought and paid for by the state legislation, even it is a struggling retailer.

They need something to anchor that generic chain box center they've been talking about for a hundred years.

You don't sound jealous of Huntsville at all.

Downtown, UAB, 5 Points and immediate surrounding areas are experiencing major flooding right now.

I'm at work on 280 so I'm relying on photos from James Spann's Twitter feed and from other friends of mine, but I've never seen it like this!

First paragraph from Carol Robinson. Very unnecessary writing. Not surprising, though.

Lol at 'brief respite from murder and mayhem.'

She has to give the people what they want. Far right Trumpies need to have their narrative reinforced whenever possible, especially when it involves a successful black man interacting positively with the police and doing something good for his community.

now compare the coverage of waukesha or the brooklyn shooter compared to similar mass shootings perpetrated by white males.
