Now I'm on The Last Precinct, having realized it's better to read them in order. I can't put this one down, either. All her books are great escape novels.
I'm with Ummm....While I really enjoyed the earlier books in the series - I used to read 'em like candy...I haven't liked the more recent ones..
I feel the same way! i could not read the others fast enough, i just had to get my hands on the next one. But now i have to say i have not picked up one of books in such a long time.
The earlier books in the series were very good, I thought. Around the time she switched to writing about Scarpetta in the third person, I began to find the books unreadable. Cornwell's writing changed so much over the years that I wonder if she was having them ghostwritten back in the old days or something.
I finally finished all of Cornwell's books. I actually really enjoyed Scarpetta and am looking forward to Cornwell's next book coming out this year. I was relieved to see that Marino is.....well, I can't give it away, I guess. I like the fact that her characters age and that none of them are infallible people.
I have long been a fan of Patricia Cornwell's books. I have read all of the Kay Scarpetta series and I have liked them. I just finished her recent book, Scarpetta and I was disappointed.
I felt that the author spent far too much time examining the relationships between the main characters. The usual crime investigation was lukewarm. I personally dislike the character Lucy, the niece, who is portrayed as a smart-a** at all times, and in this book she is particularly obnoxious.
Any of you read this latest book? If so, how did you feel about it?
I am totally in agreement. "Scarpetta" was a real disappointment and I remember mentioning it in another thread.
It feels like she is running out of ideas and all the characters are forced and they are developing according to what the author probably thinks would sell.
I agree with a few posters who said that after "Black Notice" her books started to be less compelling and interesting.

I've long been convinced that there was a team of ghostwriters either early on that's not doing them now, or that she was writing her own stuff back then, but isn't, now. I enjoyed the first few, but really haven't found any of the more recent ones readable at all. I have to wonder which is the "real" Patricia Cornwell, because I don't believe for a minute that the same writer is responsible for, say, both "Postmortem" and "Blow Fly."
