I hate winter. I still live here.

What I hate more than the winter is the cost of living and how crowded Boston has become. Traffic can be a nightmare and it takes way too long to get to places than it should

Fortunately the pandemic and remote work has changed some of that for me and I would imagine many others. I live in a suburb outside of Boston and rarely venture into the city these days. I have no reason to. It makes me kind of sad sometimes because there are things I love about Boston - restaurants, museums, hotel bars, just walking around. But I can’t stand being smothered by people everywhere I go. Sorry not sorry.

Do I still enjoy things here? Sure.

Lol. Boston weather is not substantially better than Detroit. Ice dams and shoveling two feet of snow in 10F weather and 30mph gusts is not much fun.

No, it isn't fun. If someone doesn't like winter they won't like it here.

Many of the country's greyest cities are in the midwest. I've lived it!
"Summer in New England is best". Best is not a word I would use for summer in New England, it's typically a muggy middle of the road summer like plenty of places around the country and around the world. Sure there are activities to do but that's true for plenty of other places.

And the other poster is saying how Dallas winter are barely acceptable and Dallas winters are way way milder than winters in Boston.

Also spring is basically non-existent. The weather is cool and wet until late-April early-May (depending on where in state you are) and switches to hot and humid by late-May early-June. That's not really what a nice spring is IMO.

Boston winters are better if you have an outdoor winter activity that you love. The mountains of NH are a fairly short drive. I enjoyed my winters up there a lot more when I was skiing or hiking regularly. If you don't have that, it's a long and depressing winter.

Right. I don't think Boston being a few degrees warmer than Detroit on average is much comfort to someone who finds Texas or California to be ideal.

New England winters have more snow but are warmer than midwestern winters. Pick your poison: shovel more snow in 20F here or less snow in 0F out there.

I LOVE winter and my main complaint is that it is not wintery enough. Another nice snowfall is about to get ruined with rain.

If you are comparing Boston and Detroit specifically that's not the case. Boston is marginally warmer but the difference is negligible.

I'd say Boston has a lot more to offer than Detroit...but I've never actually been to Detroit so...
