Excided that the city I live in has record low homicide> yeah.
why the heck wouldn't I be
I don't get thrills on other peoples misfortune to mask the dull existence I live which makes me bitter enough to gravitate to doom. But that's a different topic. Let's keep this one to the record low number homicides in 2024 in Boston

Let's wait until warmer weather and see if we're still celebrating about a low number of homicides...in Boston.

My kid and two roommates moved to Dorchester recently. I may be jaded, but if this is the kind of thing making headlines I’m comforted. A loud party draws the cops and a few people are arrested with no shots fired by anyone? Good on everyone!

I lived in Dorchester for about 5 years. In 2009 around the corner from me 3 people were shot dead at a house party. I could literally go outside and see the back of the house. The same night someone else in Dorchester was found shot dead in another house.

15 years isn't all that long ago and people's behavior doesn't appear to be improving. Demographics are changing though. Many people are being pushed out of Boston neighborhoods due to rising costs. It seems like the deadly shootings are happening more so in places like Brockton, Worcester, Springfield.

Boston is a city, and a certain level of undesirable behavior is part of the package. From my experience (coming up in NYC during the 1960s - 1990s) I'd say Dorchester in the 2020s sounds like a pretty good place for young adults to be starting out.

Sure, plenty can't afford nicer parts of Dorchester today. At one point not long ago it was a place some folks were afraid to go to. I had friends who would turn up their nose and basically say, ew you live in dorchester? This was late 2000s/early 2010s. It depends on which part of dorchester. Some assume all of south boston is nice but it isn't.
