I read the paper online and found Muhammad Ali had passed. He's from Louisville and where I am from. Many years ago someone bought his childhood home and renovated it and now it is a historical home. We also have a museum they built years ago of his life in Louisville, KY too. Anyways, it is sad he passed.
Ali really was an original. And there aren't many of those. From a brash kid boxer to a truly respected and beloved world figure. It's hard to describe his impact on culture to those who weren't around in the 60s & 70s. There is no current equivalent. No one even remotely close.
No nowadays athlete will do the things he did or say the things he said back then. He didn't care about monetary endorsements, he cared about endorsing black pride and squashing racism & imperialism in his home country.
There are very few celebrities that I honestly cared to meet. For me, Ali was one of the few that I would have loved to met. I am sure he was not perfect man and I am sure there stories to counter his good actions. But I still think he was a great man who tried for the greater good.
Seeing and hearing all the condolences is proof of his reach and efforts to make this a better world. But, I found it disturbing to hear that Don King commented on Ali's death. I think King's contracts dealings and trickery pushed Ali to the brink, comprising his health by forcing Ali to fight way beyond his prime.
To the greatest comment. Ali is definitely in the discussion for greatest all time. Ali accomplished a lot even after he sat in prison for 3 years during his prime. Ali fought everyone and won the majority. Though I acknowledge the Liston fight was very shady. Besides that fight I think all others were legit so he is definitely in the Top 5 of all time.
Wow. That is very sad. RIP Muhammad Ali (realname: Cassius Clay)
