We don't go to organized camp grounds we boondock and it happens out in the boonies too.
So what we did to combat this is we went to some garage sales and bought a couple of tents and some old folding chairs.
We set them up on the camp site on ether side.
I didn't go out to the boonies to have neighbors closer than I have at home, I went camping to get away from them.
I love boondocking, but sooner or later, we'd run out of something and have to make a run back to civilization to purchase things.
I liked National Forests and Grasslands out west, we'd meet like minded people who also avoided those organized camp facilities. Maximum stays were supposed to be 14 days, but the local rangers would allow longer stays if there weren't any other campers. BLM lands are great too, in that a camper can stay almost indefinitely, out west, there were no government agents telling us to move.
It can get kind of creepy at night time though, it's so silent, you can hear everything, and everything can hear you too. We'd occasionally play a radio or rustle around to let critters know humans were about. In one camp area, the USDA put up be bear aware signs, and we always tried to stay aware of the surroundings. Once we thought banditos were going to approach our camp area til our dog barked and they took off in a quickie.
Wisconsin sort of stinks for camping because most of the forests are state owned, and wisconsin makes people pay for camping spots. Up north of oshkosh, some lands are owned by the US Gov't., (USDA) and those are still free as far as I know. Pay campgrounds in Nebraska are kind of neat and inexpensive, but Nebraska has little pull off locations beside the Interstate where people can boondock.

oh i'm glad for some current conversation too, as dh and i are considering going full time ourselves. our home is on the market and we shall see what happens!
at this point we're considering a fifth wheel with toy hauler, so we can haul his jeep with us. i already have the one ton dually and am used to pulling a goosenenck horse trailer, so i think we'll adapt to the driving very easily.
i'll leave the horse at the boarding barn for now, lol.
I miss this place too, but since moving to Fl, I haven't been camping in over two years. Sigh. I wouldn't dream of camping out in this land of pythons, gators and such. But I sure do miss camping in NC and sharing in this thread. Someone once again pulled me back here via a rep, so I'm all nostalgic now.
Thanks to all who posted on this thread. What a treat ! It is something I have always wanted to do but I doubt it will happen so, thanks for letting me enjoy it through you all that do......lol. I hope there will be more posters. Great thread.
I am not pleased with the way I ended up downsizing these photos, but it is what I have to offer at this time.
Attachment 107643 Suwannee River FL State Park in Lake City, FL. A BEAUTIFUL park.
Attachment 107644 FDR GA State Park. We had not anticipated the grandeur of this park. Had to extend our stay so that we could go out and see the 'history'.
Attachment 107645 The is Red Top Mountain GA State Park. Lovely park, but getting our trailer properly situated in this very tight site was a challenge to our marriage.
