In the debate over heroism, let's keep in mind that there can be differing degrees of valor. The military recognizes this by having more than just the Congressional Medal of Honor. There are also the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Distinguished Service Cross, and other awards for acts of valor that might not have been quite up to the level of a CMH, but were still deserving of award.
Charles has gotten his due, and he'll probably get more.
I'm ready to move on. I'm sure many owners of those metals are woman beaters too.
That's why I don't believe in putting anyone on a pedestal.
In the Anderson Cooper interview, Charles Ramsey mentions that another neighbor ran across the street and was the one to actually kick down the door. However, that neighbor did not speak English very well, and thus was not hogging the cameras and the limelight.
Doing something to help someone in need doesn't have to put you in harms way. A phone call to the cops comes to mind
For what it's worth, I also believe that Charles Ramsey is a hero. God bless him...
It appears as though Ramsey may not have been the guy who saved her. The real guy is some Hispanic person who speaks little English, or so he says.
Maybe that's why Ramsey refused the reward and maybe that's why initially he said he instructed her how she should kick out the bottom screen on the door and escape that way. I saw a picture of the door and the screen was projecting out.
Then, on Anderson Cooper's show, he said HE kicked the door open to get her out.
So he changes his story.
The Hispanic fellow said he is the one who went up to the door and told her how to kick out the screen. She then ran to the curb and Ramsey was there with other neighbors. She was on the neighbor's phone, talking to 911 on her own when Ramsey called 911 himself. So, if this story is true, the other guy is the hero and Ramsey just wanted to get some limelight shining on him. UGH!

At any rate, regardless of the history of these two men, the result is the same: the women have (finally) been freed.
Thank you for posting this. I'm begining to think Ramsey is just a publicity hound.
Maybe they should ask the girls who came to them first, who helped them escape. Maybe the neighbors should also be asked. Maybe poor Mr. Cordero should be offered the reward.

I agree that Ramsey has changed up the details of the story, but how do we know who's telling the truth here? This guy Angel, unfortunately, doesn't really speak English, so the lack of detail that he is able to give, probably makes it more difficult to know what exactly happened. If he did indeed help he should be commended and be considered a hero, but now it's starting to sound like hearsay. Does anyone know the truth?

What if Mr Ramsey would have ignored the screams and pounding on the door?? It may have been another 10 years before people woke up. Sometimes, we get complacent about what is going on around us.

Lots of heros and angels working in our midst.
Clap clap clap, job well done!!!!! Not taking credit away from him for that.
But why are we putting a wife beater on a pedestal..
is all I'm sayin
