Seems there is no shortage of high profile public shooting these days. The best way to get notoriety these days? Be an inept, incompetent high ranking politician, heading say the State Department or IRS or pick a public venue and go on a shooting spree.

No doubt there will be renewed efforts to jumpstart new gun control laws because of all days, it was Mother's Day. No mention will be made that these were criminals of course.

Why would there be efforts to jump start gun control laws when gun related crimes are in decline?

There are already laws against criminals owning guns. You want to stop honest citizens from owning also ?

Maybe you missed the entire efforts of gun control advocates after the very recent events in Mass.?

These events always attract such efforts. By tomorrow there will be renewed efforts to increase gun controls and enact new gun control laws. I'll make that a 100% guarantee.

Gun control doesn't stop honest citizens...it just checks the buyer is qualified first, then registers and tracks the guns after purchase.

What is bad about that? People probably reacted the same when drivers licenses first came in, but now we don't even think about it and there are less accidents

It's a violation of the Constitution. The Second Amendment is the right that all of our other rights depend on.

Because it doesn't stop criminals from breaking laws. Think about it, if someone has already decided they are going to kill someone and willing to face the possibility of being punished for it, then what punishment would you be able to give them that would stop them from thinking about illegally obtaining a gun?

I'm amazed that situations like this are used as political fodder. We have to hear these sob stories about what happened in Newtown and talk about the push for gun control, but few people in this nation even think about the fact that Adam Lanza obtaining that gun had nothing to do with gun control. He stole a gun from a registered gun owner. How do you prevent people from stealing? By making more gun controls? How about his mental health? The fact that before he picked up the gun, he decided he was going to kill people? Isn't that more disturbing?

I think you hit the nail on the head. I think the focus on gun control is useless without addressing the person who picked up the gun. Criminals are always going to find ways to get guns illegally, no matter how many laws you pass. If we addressed the people and why they seek to address their problems by killing others, we'd get much farther than the best gun control would ever take us.

I think this is it. What better way to prove (to a demented mind) that you "are somebody"? People feel so worthless nowadays. What easier way is there to get your image and life story plastered all over CNN without resorting to some horrific evil act? Sadly, tragedies such as this are "entertainment" for people who sit in front of their TVs all day.
