BS !

I had extractions and full dentures done in 2010 and I can't think of anything I can't eat with them.
They look great, fit great, and my total bill was just $3,500.

I am not even aware that they are dentures when I am wearing them.

If you don't value your teeth, then no amount of money will be worth it. I know people who will never skip a hair appointment but haven't been to the dentist in years an have a mouth full of rotted teeth. Many people on this forum do not value their teeth and will tell you to just get the cheapest thing possible. Not judging, it's their prerogative, and everyone has different financial situations. You are young to be missing teeth. Start thinking long-term, not just "call it a day". Dentures may look/feel great at first, but in 15 years when all the bone has in your mouth has resorbed and the dentures are super loose, you'll wish you had done implants. If you are considering dentures, another option could be implant-supported/retained dentures. These are traditional dentures that "snap" into implants so they are not moving everywhere and falling out at church. Check with your dentist to see if they are an option for you.

After reading your insulting post, I'll bet either you or a family member are a dentist and the more expensive the procedure $$$$$$$$$$$$, the fatter your bank account is .

I have dentures, and pretty much eat what I want. I never chewed gum anyway, so that's not a problem.

David Stone, as I mentioned early on, my mom had dentures all her life that I knew her and she ate everything, corn on cob too. Back then FOR SURE, money was very very tight and for some TODAY, it's very tight.

Yes, I recall an arrogant woman professor at University of Minnesota Dental School.

I was getting an estimate for complete extractions and dentures and she asked the student if they had mentioned adding 4 implants.

I stated that it would add $8,000 to the bill.
She then mocked me in front of her student and said.............." I only suggested 4 dentures and he is trying to make such a big deal out of only an additional $8,000 added to the bill "

I went and got the work done at a real dentist for $3500 because the dental school wanted $8,900.

Bottom line, some people do better with dentures than others. Depends on your jaw size, bone, your age and many factors. I have a very small jaw and even my dentists have said I would not be a good candidate for dentures (not that I need them). At any rate, a person should have all the info and weigh everything out before they go ahead and extract because after that, there is no going back.

It is important also to remember that with all teeth extracted the bone resorbs and the face starts to change, getting that "caved in" look.

So let me summarize your post: since you had good results, everyone else who doesn't like their dentures must not know what they are talking about. They really do like them but they just don't know it.

I've done both the partial denture and now have implants. Having done both, I would do the implants all over again if I had to make the choice. Yes, it was far more expensive. And yes, the implants have been worth it.

First, if done correctly you won't be "in pain" for 2 years. The surgery for bone grafts and implanting the posts was uncomfortable. Yes, I hurt for a couple days after each. And the liquid diet was a trial sometimes (you really DO get tired of ice cream and pudding!!) The healing period for the post to "solidify" was less uncomfortable than the initital removal of the tooth. My oral surgeon is VERY cautious with aftercare and for me, it paid off.

Yes, I eat pizza, meat and pretty much anything else I want. I've never been a gum chewer and as Hemlock mentioned, I avoid really chewy sticky foods like caramels and hard sticky candies.

For me, I'd say the 2 year process involved maybe 5-10 days of pain/discomfort and maybe 30-40 inconvenience because of the soft diet.

I have no financial dog in this fight. I'm not advocating to spend more than your lifestyle/preferance warrants. I will say though that whatever you decide on, go with the best professional you can find. Don't cheap out. The places that advertise "implants in a day" seem to have a much lower success rate. These are the ones that do grafts if needed, place the posts, do the cap and send you on your way all at one time. There are generally few/no restrictions/cautions placed by these people They collect their $$ and you're on your way. I've read quite a few stories of people who developed infections, had to have the posts removed and had problems afterward going this route. With my oral surgeon AND dentist I had multiple follow up exams and always felt like they viewed my success as their success.

Best wishes in whatever you decide.

The next time you want to quote one of my posts, why don't you make the effort to see which post I was responding to.
