Amenities lacking in Denver? (hotel, purchasing, movie theaters)

Hello, I recently visited Denver and am thinking about a relocation there.

In general is there any forms of entertainment that you wish Denver had, but is lacking? Examples could be upscale movie theaters, shopping, upscake clothing stores, etc. What is Denver lacking that you wish they had?

Some people on the forum here would like specific chains to expand into Denver (for example, In 'n' Out Burgers), but besides that, Denver isn't really lacking for anything.

The things you mention exist here, just maybe not in the same quantities as they did back home. Problem with out of town chains is that they expand into Denver, but often they don't do well enough here to stick around.

EDIT: A frequent criticism on this forum about Denver is the lack of "quality" pizza. This, however, is force of nature, not a lack of people with the ability to make quality pizza.

Well In N out Burger is just one burger joint, good burgers are not hard to find IMO. The Italian food lacking is good criticism though and Italian is my favorite foods. I need to consider this.

Every city lacks something people want, but its always on a personal level. If you listen to enough people's opinions on what is missing you'd probably conclude Denver is just lacking in a lot of things, but take it all with a grain of salt. This would be something you would hear about every city big or small.

I know, which is why I'm asking for people to point out Denver's. I'm can only do so many google searches, hearing from ppl who live there is better info.

Water is lacking so real water activities are minimal. However, more water means more humidity, more rain and more snow. So, I will accept that lack for the better climate.

Denver has everything NYC has but on a much smaller scale. You can find anything here. The food is ok but when you consider the price difference you can eat in a nice restaurant on Larimer Square for the same price that you would pay in some hole in the wall in Brooklyn.

There are theaters, but it's not broadway. As far as shopping the cherry creek mall has everything you could want to satisfy your materialistic needs.

Movie theaters abound, and there's plenty to do. Most of entertainment is centered around down to earth living with outdoor activities and enjoying the AWESOME weather here

But having said all that? what will you do for a living when you move here? Do you have a job lined up or some prospects? If you're not in a field that is in demand here you might have a hard time finding a job and then how can you shop at Neiman Marcus without paychecks?

What about the attitude and atmosphere of the city, will it jive with your lifestyle? You can probably spend some time thinking about what type of city you'd like to live in but as far as amenities there are plenty here.

Nothing, that I can think of. People complain about food, but I don't understand. There are thousands of restaurants in Denver. Unless you are some food geek with an extreme need for some very specific food that's only found in some other region, you'll be ok. I've eaten at locally owned Italian restaurants here and thought they were fine, but I'm certainly not a "foodie".

I agree somewhat but....

The ambiance is not here. It certainly does not have the same feeling of eating in some of the old ethnic areas of NYC, Boston, San Fran, Philly, Chicago etc. Denver really did not develop large identifiable European ethnic areas with variability within those ethnic cuisines. As an example the Italian community cuisine was just basic red sauce and simple poor Italian--the "meatball and spaghetti" idea as the same you would say "meat and potato". We have a interesting and small Asian area and We have some nice Latino areas. It is just not the same as the older areas of those cities and with some of the old food markets that still survive. Yet, much of the cuisine has improved over the many years I have been here.

Also, which cannot not be replicated here is eating along the ocean, the smell of salt water, the look, the age of the fisherman wharf and of course the extensive availability of really fresh seafood.

There is also not the close availability of the products that have been developed over many generations of ethnic manufacturers such as the extensive cured and fabrication of meats in Chicago. When I first came here , 35 years ago, and worked as Chef and also opened a major large hotel in purchasing, I had go to the eastern cities to get these products. Locally produced bread was terrible and I was stunned that there was no real authentic production of true aged beef and extensive fabrication was not done considering it championed its beef-all of us would get it from other cities. Some of that is now available in Denver but not all. Denver is just not old enough of a city to establish those traditions which take time.

So, with the ambiance of the old cities, the extensive fresh seafood of the seaside and the close availability of the long established traditions of making ethnic food products comes creativity and innovation in the kitchen which makes a great dining experience. As I said much has changed but sometimes you have to wait for that which time can only create.

Definitely Restaurants -

I've been traveling to Boston for work and have been completely blown away with the restaurant options compared to Denver. Last week we had Lobster Rolls @ Neptunes, then Szechuan Chinese the next day, with great Sushi on every corner. Not to mention the Italian food ...Rinos in east Boston is just amazing you won't find anything like it out here.

The difference is in Denver you can find 1-2 options for restaurants that are basically ubiquitous in Boston.

Now with that said... I would still live in Denver ANY DAY. Weather > Food.

p.s. Denver cares way too much about burgers
