These were some of the biggest hits of 2013 in The Netherlands. All of them are great songs in my opinion.
^ You have to speak Dutch to appreciate the beauty of this song. This girl lost both her parents and the song describes the impact it had on her, using clever wordplays and rhymes.
^ Background: "To celebrate the pregnancy of Radio 538's news anchor Hannelore, radio DJ Ruud de Wild asked singer/songwriter Niels Geusebroek to write a song on the heartbeat of Hannelores still unborn daughter. A week later he performed the song he wrote and he blew the Netherlands away. The song went straight to 1 on iTunes."
Also interesting to note is that John Legend's "All of Me" is a huge hit in the Netherlands (currently #2) even though it only peaked at #52 on the American charts (Billboard). Funny how that works sometimes.
Wow, netherland folks know how to write emotional songs. Thank you for sharing that. (the first warmed me up, the second litterally blew my mind (and the mind of the pregnant woman apparently)).
I'll add some modern Greek entries since you all should know our more classic/folk works.
I will say that I'm happy many artists from other countries are coming to Greece to film their music videos (Romania and Norway to name a few). This didn't use to happen in decades past. The collaborations are pretty damn good.
