I take it as good news, too. Surely no one thought that I thought there were no snowbirds down there. I was just seeing a phenomenal amount heading that way, perhaps ahead of that blizzard. I don't see the need for the snark but I guess it makes people feel better about themselves.

Honestly, I was so happy to see those folks headed that way! I had tears in my eyes. And I always wave at anyone that's in a car that indicates they are heading to swFlorida. And they always wave back.

I live on an exit that has a lot of very nice, affordable hotels. A lot of snowbirds stop there. If they are in traffic I always try to get them to roll down there window so I can say "hello."

Funny story. When we first moved up here, my husband saw a RV headed south on I-75 with Lee County tags. He looked over and realized that it was an auto repair customer from Fort Myers. He started honking the horn and waving. The customer recognized him! They were so excited to see each other!

Hik,
What snark? What IS a snark? I'm in the dark I guess...

When I'm up here in NY, I always notice Florida plates. When I see them up here in the dead cold of winter, I wonder what they are doing here....when I see one with Lake county plates, I really take a look.

I just got my 4 wheel drive Jeep inspected. In NY here it is a big deal, because if there is ANYTHING wrong, check engine light, etc, it does not pass. I'm not bringing the Jeep to Florida of course, as I do not need four wheel drive down there. I could not help smiling thinking this could be my last car inspection...!

(I hope). Next time I'm down there I'm buying my sunpass....soon I'll be trading in my EZpass for a sunpass.....yippee!

Frank

Think all the retired couples are already there as there isn't much of a choice in one bedroom places to stay except for higher end ones.

Snark:

noun: Combination of "snide" and "remark". Sarcastic comment(s). snarky (adj.), snarkily (adv.)

You are only a few years older than me, Frank. Keep up.

On some forums it is actually not allowed to start a post with "Um" because sarcasm is sure to follow...

I started this thread coming from a place of happiness.

I'm not sure if you realize it, Frank, but we live right off of I-75, up here. It's pretty cool. For visits we just hop on I-75. It was fairly comforting for our daughter to know it was the same road. She was only five when we moved. And yes, people have to go back and forth for all sorts of reasons. Poor "Pinda" got stuck in WI during the blizzard while attending a wedding.

I've had a tradition, over the years, of posting when the snowbirds are coming since we see them going up and down the highway. It's not a bad gauge. The past couple of years, we have seen less snowbirds. It was really exciting to see that many snowbirds. It really was very significant.

I lived there year-round, too, and I can understand the frustration, but after the horrific nightmare this country has been through in the past few years, good news is welcome. A success in California, or Texas or New York or Florida is good for us all.

Yes, snowbirds sometimes deserve their bad reputation, but they have become much nicer, over the years. When you think about it, this is truly a different generation than the ones that were there 15 years ago. I suspect as time goes on they will become nicer and nicer until they are our generation. Then they will be first class!

Anyone who works in Florida should fall on their knees to welcome the "snowbirds"..........Snowbirds don't carjack people, rob convenience stores, sell crack, steal copper and appliances from empty homes, demand welfare, food stamps and section 8 housing and overwhelm health care services, since they all have insurance and deplete the unemployment fund........they do eat out, almost daily, patronize marina's restaurants, pool service's,landscapers, stores, salons(don't forget the white haired ladies)..........oh....sorry that a few old farts drive a
little slow,I know it's annoying.

Not being snarky or sarcastic, simply stating a fact.

And passive agressive posts shouldn't be allowed either. Yes, that was sarcasm.
