If the vacation meant plane fare to Europe and I could do whatever I wanted to I'd take it. If I have to go on a planned or group type vacation, no. Then I would take the money.

I'd take the vacation and charter a yacht in the Caribbean. Much better value to me than the cash.

I suppose the vacation, at an all inclusive resort or cruise, if I had No out of pocket expenses. i ddon't need to put out a dime.

I hate ''free'' vacations, that end up costing me money.

Since I'd be vacationing by myself, $3,000 should be able to get me a pretty awesome week long vacation. I don't really need $1,500 for anything, so I'd go with the vacation.

Vacation.

There is a difference between being frugal and just being cheap. Frugal is being prudent. Being cheap is choosing an impoverished life. It would be a tragedy to never have those memories with your families because you were a complete tightwad.

$3k seems about the amount my wife and I would usually spend on a one-week vacation, at least domestically, so...if someone else wanted to pick up the tab, great!

Our last vacation cost us about $3000 for a family of five. It was a week in Denver, mostly sightseeing, and included airfare and a jr. suite style hotel. I'm sure we could make something work with that number, even if not "fancy", it'd still be fun. I know we could do a week in New Orleans with that and so that's what I'd do!

I would pick the vacation, we need to get away and not spend the vacation worrying about the money we spent on it. Total relaxation. Taking the vacation seems like making money, why would I leave 50% of the "cash" on the table, espcially if the trip is a life goal.

Take the vacation. The money might be spent on something not as enjoyable, or disappear into expenses.

Vacation of my choice? Have DIL who have complete kidney failure and I haven't been able to visit them in 4 years. $3000 would probably cover several weeks of visiting. If its got to be the package of someone else's choosing I'd take the $1500 and take the same vacation. Not really interested is a vacation in a resort instead of spending the time with family.
