i have verizon unlimited 2 lines for 140.00 a month
Is that a prepaid plan? our bill would be $120/mo for 2 lines unlimited data. For some reason prepaid plans are cheaper than contract plans that continue after the expiration of the contract.
OP, check out Verizon's prepaid plans. Like I said, we pay $70 for 2 lines each with 3gb that roll over each month. We don't use data very much and usually each have 4gb+ available at the end of each month after using a couple gbs each. I agree with staying away from tmobile and cricket, verizon is comparable to at&t.
I use Ting. I LOVE Ting. My typical bill is under $20/month. You pay for what you use and typically I'm in the lowest tier for texts, voice and data. Sometimes I go over the 60 minutes for voice and that adds a few bucks to the bill; have never gone over 100 mb of data by using Wi-Fi where available and keeping Cellular data turned off so that apps aren't constantly uploading and downloading stuff while I sleep. I bought my phone outright 4 years ago so no "free" phone cost built in.
I use Ting also, I don't use my phone much and my bill averages $11.25 a month. With Ting your bill is $6 to start (that's one phone) and you get charged only for what you use. Check them out, it's a good deal !!
I bought the iphones outright so it's a clean bill. Not sure the prices people quote here is the total price. I have at least $30 in various government fees. Are other providers exempt? I am also a little weary going with "off-brand" providers, like Cricket, MetroPCS or this Straight Talk. Not sure who they are and what their service looks like. What if you go abroad?
If you go abroad often your best option hands down is TMobile as long as it works in your local area.
I left Verizon for Net10 and then to Total Wireless. Total and Net10 both utilize Verizon towers (Net10 uses all four, but can be isolated). I found Verizon has the best domestic coverage.
When I leave the country I either FaceTime over WiFi or use google hangouts to make WiFi calls back home or over there for cheap.
My bill for two lines is $62/month after taxes, that is for unlimited talk/text and 15gb shared data running on Verizon via Total Wireless. I bought two new iPhone SE's for $99 each. Great phones.

If you are interested in saving money this is an easy way to do it. But you will need to put some effort in to doing research.
My understanding is that most all of the cell towers are owned and maintained by one of the big 4 providers, plus some owned by U.S. Cellular (I think), and a smattering of towers owned by very small regional companies. All the resellers such as Cricket, Tracfone, etc. buy their airtime from the big providers, and ride on their towers. So if you like one network such as AT&T or Verizon, you can search for a reseller that offers that network.
Where resellers differ is the lack of contracts, the plans, the pricing, the customer service, and the taxes. The resellers I've used, and others I've researched, do not charge taxes separately from their plans, so the price you see is the price you pay.
Look back on your usage to assess how much you realistically use. Many people think they need "unlimited" data when their month to month average in reality is much less.
We have an older plan with Cricket - FIVE lines with 5GB of data EACH for $100. Since the five of us each use about 3GB each per month, it works well for us.
Many people do not need unlimited data as they are generally within the reach of a wifi network.
I killed my Att cell service. I was paying 150 for unlimited talk text data. My best friend put me on his plan which is a plan offered to military people. I paid for two years in advance. Basically paid for two years what I was paying for three months. Moved to T mobile. Now I have unlimited data text voice international calling and hotspot
