Due to quarantines and the resulting staff shortages we have been mandated to work overtime at a rate that I have earned more than I ever have. And there is nowhere to go so the inflation in food and increased spending on cleaning supplies has not been noticed.
I'm eating out/carrying out more, so probably spending a little more on that. I'm spending less on gas as I don't work in the office every day . . . and not to mention that gas prices have decreased during covid as demand has dropped. I am saving a whole lot on rent as I moved apartments; somewhat covid related as part of the reason (not the main reason by a long shot) was that I moved to the first location in large part due to the area amenities, which now being closed due to covid made me not want to pay the high premium to live in that area. My electricity bill isn't higher as I don't use the lights much and, while I'm home more, my TV doesn't really use that much power. All in all, I'm spending less during covid.
I'd say yes.. Though the past 2 months I've had kids staying with me over the summer.. Usually my bank account drops some as we're doing things and I have to feed them, etc.. It pretty much held serve this year.
From March to May.. Yeah.. I socked away about $4000.
I suspect that will start here again now that the kids have gone home.
The wife and I joke about our PPP — i.e. pandemic prosperity plan. The federal and state governments hand out money and we bank it knowing full well that this foolishness will blow up in their faces when the gravy train ends.
If you don't need your money, perhaps you could donate it to a food bank so that people who DO need money could get some food for their families.
We have spent more this year on cash gifts for family and acquaintances, this month $3k to help with funeral expenses. Total so far $16K, anticipate an additional $9K by the end of the year. Our regular expenses are down our net is up.
Yes, working on getting that increased savings to help pay off my mortgage by the end of the year. Fingers crossed!
