Only quarters and up. They are still useful for the buses around here.

But in this country, I've never seen change lying on the ground, lol.

I might walk by a penny most of the time, but if I just pick up one, ever, that counts.

My paternal grandfather used to pick up pennies. "A hundred of them is a dollar." I have picked up pennies all my life. 'See a penny pick it up and all the day you'll have good luck.'

He also used to pick up nuts and bolts. They were not poor at the time but he did grow up during the Depression.

It's kind of sweet. One time we took her on a girls trip to the beach and when we stopped to eat, she found a penny outside her car door when she got out and another when she got back in. The years coincided with her two husbands who she loved very much. She took it as they were approving her trip.
After my husband died, a fellow widow told me about "pennies from heaven." And I started finding them. He was very frugal but left me well provided for. So I was spending money that I normally wouldn't have. And every time I would find a penny, letting me know he approved.

The most extreme example - holidays have been very hard for me since he passed, I prefer to stay home by myself. One Thanksgiving, I accepted an invite from a friend, more for her than for me. When I went back out to the car after dinner, there was over $1.50 in change all around the car!! Thanksgiving was his favorite holiday. I think he was really happy.

My late father-in-law told me about the pennies from heaven.

VT, I laughed when I read about the $1.50. Fifty cents was for leaving the house. The dollar was for keeping company with someone who didn't want to be alone.

Pennies, of course! But, I have found dollar bills up to $10 and one $100 bill. We did score a few bills when we were walking by a house that was busted for drugs.

Filth is everywhere, but we have a good immune system!
