I must have picked up many hundreds of dollars worth of change and the occasional small bills now and then. The best I ever found was a $50 drifting around a liquor store parking lot once. I grabbed it and took a long look around to see if anyone looked like they were searching for it, but there was no one, so in my pocket it went.
I will pick up ANY money found on the ground, pennies included. I work way to hard for my money to walk by some in the parking lot no matter how small an amount it is. And as for the whole "being embarrassed" aspect of it - what is this, high school? Come on people.
A penny because it has some value. I'm always needing pennies on purchases that require the store to charge tax.
The most we ever found was a few $1 bills in a discarded or lost cigarette pack.
Nickels and up for me. I'm a walker and find quite a bit of money, and I'd venture to say 75% or more of the coins I pickup are dimes. I guess because they're small and easier to lose.
I hadn't taken the poll because I don't often keep what I find. Usually if I find a nickel or dime, I'll pick it up and move it to where someone else who may need it, can easily spot it. I keep quarters, though. Today while walking to a dollar store, I found a dime and decided to keep it. The dime came in handy for paying the 9 cent tax on my dollar purchase.
For me it's not worth bending over for less than a $5 bill, but my wife will pick up a penny, and recites "find a penny, pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck." The other day she found two pennies, so picked up one and left the other for someone else.
There's a superstition that finding a penny is good luck. I'll pick those up.
