My husband believes very strongly in "dust to dust" as it says in the Bible. Without embalming, your body returns to the earth (dust to dust) much quicker. He also wants to be buried in a simple wooden box, if possible, not using a cement grave liner. BTW, he is Catholic.
As others have said, certain religions prohibit embalming.
Yep. I had a wonderful friend who was not embalmed, was placed in a plain pine box that was built by a friend of hers, and she was buried like that. The whole thing was beautiful.
Yes, I would not want to be embalmed! I'd prefer to be cremated, unless foulplay was suspected of course. But yeah, I don't know why anyone would want to be embalmed. The whole viewing a dead body thingy confuses me, but to each her own.
Because that's what is suppose to be done. For what reasons? Duh.
It MAY be done. There is almost never a legal requirement for it, nor is it a health risk not to do so. It is a money making procedure that may or may not be beneficial to the next of kin.

Yes, exactly. It makes more money for the funeral home, and it depletes money from the next of kin.
I do not want to be embalmed nor does my husband. It serves almost no purpose IMO. Preserved under the ground in a hermetically sealed container? Not nature's way at all. Sorry OP, you have been taken in by the "death" industry.
Only reason to embalm is if there is going to be a viewing of the body and if the funeral is days away. I would prefer not to be embalmed or 'viewed'.
The biggest funeral viewing irony is the comment, "He/she looks good." Though I get the intent, OMG! they are deceased. They don't look good. No viewing for me either.

Yes, I agree.
No, they don't look good. They look dead.
If I go to an open casket funeral, I never view the body. It's not them. They are no longer there.
I prefer an urn of ashes and pictures or a closed casket.
