The standard grief statement we hear is often that everyone works through grief in their own way. Grief comes in different forms and different reasons. A kid might experience grief from moving to a new home or school or losing a pet and not process the loss of a family member. My initial reaction to the OP (after the retirement forum thread) was "here he is again...how old is this guy?" The loss of a job is tough and can mess up a lot of plans and a family's future and might be unexpected. Retirement is usually anticipated and most people look forward to it and plan for it. It almost seems that there is something else that is contributing to the negative reaction. Some (or many) people on this forum would not understand such grief over retirement when dealing with personal loss from the death of a loved one. Unlike those situations, there is a life after retirement but you might have to work at finding it.
