A 17-year old GA high school student was charged with a felony (weapons on school grounds) because he had a fish knife in his tackle box which was in the trunk of his car. Apparently, a dog during a routine check alerted for the presence of gunpowder, and that allowed a full search of his car. The gunpowder residue was from a firecracker, but it was during that search that they found the knife, illegal under the school's zero-tolerance policy.

Just as school officials go batty when finding Midol () in a girl's purse, there's no room for common sense under these zero-tolerance laws, which also relieve high-paid, responsible staff from making a decision.

There goes this poor kid's planned Air Force career.

This is what happens when the public school system is run by liberal women and girlie men.

We carried shotguns, ammo and gear in our vehicles to bird hunt before and after high school. Yes knives and fishing gear as well.

Bye, bye Sweet America.

When I went to high school in the mid 70s, we took a class called out door ed. We had pellet traps and would practice our shooting skills on rainy days and then load 12 and 20 ga shells for skeet shoots on sunny days. We had 4 shotguns and 10 22 bolt actions in the school supply closet. We would bring our own guns to school and clean them on the desk then go on a deer hunt on school forest on school time. We also shot competition 22lr. Even though there were problems with bully's and the like no one ever shot anyone. Now a days liberals pee themselfs if some kid chews a pop tart to look like a gun, or holds ups a finger and thumb to make a gun of the hand. LOL I have never seen so many people lose bladder control before. Scared of their own shadow.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

And while we're at it, if women would stop wringing their hands and running after Johnny because he's (gasp!) pulling Susie's pigtails in the schoolyard, and schools would stop dispensing medicine without a license in the form of sedating every little boy that happens to act like Tom Sawyer, maybe we wouldn't have the explosion of kids "settling things" on their own.

And those people scream the loudest when they try to claim that WE (gun owners) are the ones who are scared, paranoid, etc. It's unbelievable.

I used to bring a bolt-action .22 to school for rifle club when I was in high school in the early-mid 70s. It was an extra-curricular, after-school sport. Now I bet schools don't even have rifle clubs.

Here is a quick oversite of what California got stuck with.

Here is a list of the bills signed by Governor Brown on Friday, Oct 11 2013 (Some Highlights)

AB 48 by Assembly member Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) – Firearms: large-capacity magazines.

Any person who, prior to July 1, 2014, legally possesses a large-capacity magazine shall dispose of that magazine by any of the following means:

(1) Remove the large-capacity magazine from the state.

(2) Prior to July 1, 2014, sell the large-capacity magazine to a licensed firearms dealer.

(3) Destroy the large-capacity magazine.

(4) Surrender the large-capacity magazine to a law enforcement agency for destruction.

(5) No magazine repair kits.

AB 170 by Assembly member Steven Bradford (D-Gardena) – Assault weapons and .50 BMG rifles.

· On and after January 1, 2014, no partnership, corporation, limited liability company, association, or any other group or entity, regardless of how the entity was created, may be issued a permit to posses an assault weapon or a .50 BMG rifle. (This removed the use of a trust to hold the assault weapons)

· The Department of Justice shall annually conduct an inspection for security and safe storage purposes, and to reconcile the inventory of assault weapons. Once every five years or sooner if you have less than five assault weapons. (They are coming to your home to inventory and check security of your assault weapons)

AB 231 by Assembly member Philip Y. Ting (D-San Francisco) – Firearms: criminal storage.

This sets three levels of infractions if you don't properly store your firearms.

AB 500 by Assembly member Tom Ammiano (D-San Francisco) – Firearms.

· Commencing January 1, 2015, the dealer will notify the Department of Justice when the buyer actually took possession of the firearm. (Big brother (DOJ) is controlling)

· This bill would prohibit a person who is residing with someone who is prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a firearm from keeping a firearm at that residence unless the firearm is either kept within a locked container, locked gun safe, locked trunk, locked with a locking device, disabled by a firearm safety device, or carried on the person.

AB 711 by Assembly member Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) – Hunting: non-lead ammunition.

· This law would require, as soon as is practicable, but by no later than July 1, 2019, the use of non-lead ammunition for the taking of all wildlife, including game mammals, game birds, nongame birds, and nongame mammals, with any firearm.

· This law also stops all black powder hunting in the state as most black powder use a lead projectile only.

AB 1131by Assembly member Nancy Skinner (D-Berkeley) – Firearms.

· This law would require the licensed psychotherapist to make the report to local law enforcement within 24 hours, in a manner prescribed by the department.

· This law will also increase the prohibitory period from 6 months to 5 years before you get your firearms back.

SB 683by Senator Marty Block (D-San Diego) – Firearms: firearm safety certificate.

· Commencing January 1, 2015, all firearms transferred that the buyer must have a valid firearm safety certificate, and would prohibit any person from selling, delivering, loaning, or transferring any firearm to any person who does not have a valid firearm safety certificate.

· Commencing January 1, 2015, and subject to exceptions, require a safe handling demonstration for purchasers of all firearms (long guns & handguns).
