A friend of mine bought a suppressor from a local Mom and Pop gun store recently. He was told to expect up to a 270-day wait on the tax stamp. He was approved in 45 days and the gun store owners were very surprised.
I went out to his place for the test firing and they are great additions to a gun collection. He was shooting a 45 ACP and you didn't even need ear protection. (I would suggest using protection anyway though)

That is an insane turnaround, it is usually close to a year for sure. That Mom & Pop must have some pull.

They thought my buddy had some pull. Maybe the ATF doesn't have as much to do now that the pistol brace thing isn't a thing anymore. I honestly don't know why suppressors are even an NFA item. They aren't silent and they are a safety item protecting people's hearing and all. Plus they make a handgun more difficult to conceal.
From the Silencer Shop "Right now, we are seeing average silencer wait times from 21 days to over 12 months on average, while paper forms are taking 12+ months".
They suggest going to the electronic form for the easiest and fastest way.
Beyond silly that this type of hearing protection isn’t legal without a stamp and hundreds of dollars.
Countries that allow Suppressors without a permit:
Norway
France (for rimfire pistols)
Italy(? same as gun?)
Poland
New Zealand
Countries that allow Suppressors with a permit (not near as restrictive as the USA - in most of these countries - basically if you have a permit for a gun, you can get a suppressor too - as it is treated the same as a gun):
One of mine took just 3 months during the heart of covid...actually my shortest wait. 12mo seems really long. I have a few and the longest, my first, took 7 months.
But yeah, hunting suppressed is a little bit of a game changer. Deer just don't know what to make of the suppressed sound. It just doesn't register to them as a gun shot but more like background noise akin to a low flying plane.
I shot a doe in the middle of a herd of 20 from just 200yds. Afterwards I have 19 sets of eyes looking my way then soon back to grazing. Just grazing around their dead buddy.
Context. Please read the persons post (above mine) I was responding to.
I apologize; I thought you were replying that suppressors were silly. Hope there are no hard feelings.
