Not particularly startling news but read it if you are interested.
It would have been nice had they listed the time of the delay for the flights - as in, are these multi-hour delays or 5 minute delays. I'd also point out - many flights to/from Hawaii - Mainland often arrive very early - many of my HNL-LAX flights have arrived 30-45 minutes early which is a different problem when you are trying to sleep on a red-eye.
Southwest is a great alternative to Hawaiian - but they have a serious long term problem attempting to do interisland flying with planes dependent on the mainland arriving on time and no spares - a late inbound Southwest plane creates an entire day ripple effect.
Alaska only flies narrowbodies - they often struggle with flights out of Seattle or Portland if the headwinds are strong as they need to fly to Oakland first
From the article: They may or may not have dumped fuel prior to landing. Our understanding is that the fuel dump system was an option on the A330.
Hawaiian did purchase the fuel dumping option on the A330 - however, on such a short flight such as HNL-LAX, they would not need to dump fuel - you only need to do that on the much longer flights such as Asia or Australia
Another diversion for Hawaiian, this time causing a 15-hour delay. According to a passenger, it was caused by a damaged windshield. There have been an unusual number of diversions lately.
I will be flying to Las Vegas in November and am vacillating between Hawaiian and Southwest. Both offer non-stops, both directions. Prices are similar but I've never flown Southwest. Their flight times are better than Hawaiian's.

Southwest Pros: Free checked bags (and for you - better flight times).
Cons: No seats with extra legroom unless you board early at exit row, no preassigned seats (can get stuck with middle), no food, no spare planes in Hawaii - can be prone to delays

The lack of spare planes in Hawaii is what has stopped me from booking on Southwest already. Lack of assigned seats is also a negative, and we will only have carry-ons.
If Hawaiian or Southwest has a worthwhile sale ($100 or more, each) sometime soon, that may well be the determining factor.
On a long Southwest flight I always pay the $25 for Early-Bird check-in. It gives you a boarding spot that is usually in the first 30 people and never have to sit in the middle.

Yeah, one can do that - but round trip that increases the price by $50 and it still doesn't give you a preassigned seat - just the privilege of standing in line early.

It would also render the Southwest flights MORE expensive than Hawaiian.
