We painted the whole house Sherwin Williams Pure White. And put in LED recessed lights. We use sunglasses in the afternoon when the sun starts getting lower in the sky.

I am a visual person who can't stand clutter so it works for me. I rather see the people in the house rather than a bunch of pattern and different colors.

before I owned my apartment in the building I now live it, I had rented an apartment in the building first and I painted it the color i wanted, (mauve for kitchen, and light gray for bedroom living room) I didn't care what the lease said.
I'm a good painter and I wanted my walls a color.
The LL did come in my apartment for something one time and made a comment, but said as long as you paint it back, he wasn't mad or anything. He obviously saw it was a perfect paint job and it was just the walls as the ceilings were still white.

Then a few years later I got the bigger apt upstairs where I live now. Once everything was in the new apartment, I repainted the old apartment an off white. It was easy to paint as the walls were all new sheet rock and all the furniture was in the new apartment upstairs.

The LL was happy, I was happy I got my security back and was happy I had a color I liked for the 4 years i lived there.

it is only paint, it isn't the crime of the century.
