Huntington Mayor Steve Williams proposed at the Huntington Municipal Development Authority meeting, Nov. 24, that the city prepare a package and compete in the America's Best City competition sponsored by Frontier Communications.

"We think we have a compelling proposal," Williams said, calling the competition a robust one for the city , state and nation. "It will advance the city for the next 50 years."

More about the contest.

This could be HUGE for the city. Being able to do much of the planning and prep work will set the stage for wholesale changes and catalyze some potentially amazing developments for the area.

It could indeed be huge for the city. I'm glad to see our leadership looking for opportunities like this. Our past leaders never would have.

So I just returned from my trip to Huntington for Thanksgiving. I must say, "Wow!" The city has improved more in 6 months than it has in 10 years!

I can't wait to see what it will do in the next 6 months!

It does still have a long way to go though.

If/when some of the things currently in the works come to fruition, things will really take a leap forward.

I saw this and thought it would be nice to show the before and after pictures of the Corp of Engineers Building:

Before (found from a random Google search):

They did an excellent job remodeling that building above! It is an awesome visual addition to downtown Huntington.

It was posted in this thread back in July. This is a good update on it though. This is a really good project and I hope to see more of this type of development.

Great comparison on the CoE building too. MUCH better looking now.
