When you want to eat sushi, you should stick to a Japanese restaurant ... not a Thai one.

So getting sushi from a Chinese buffet is a bad idea?

Haha... calling the sushi from chinese buffet is like calling ketchup the spaghetti sauce.

The sushi from the buffet places are largely rice, cream cheese, vegetables & fishcake. A good sushi begins with rice. It is a special rice, different from that comes with takeout food, and is soaked in sweet vinegar before cooking. Once you've taste a truly good sushi you'll know the difference. Next is the fish. The skill of a sushi chef lies in the preparation of fish before customers show up. He will cut away the bloodlines, strings of muscles, anything except the tender moist meat. Of course, if he gives a generous portion of fish on top of rice it is a sign of good place to spend your money

Remember, a fresh fish doesn't smell. If you poke at the flesh, it should feel firm, wiggles but not limp or feel soggy. When you bite into a truly good sushi, it awakens your senses as well as clear your sinuses. Suddenly you feel better about yourself and whatever problems seem easier to deal with.

Wasabi does that too, the real stuff not the common substitute

I'm interested in if there is a Chinese place that's not "American Chinese" food. What I mean by that is that American Chinese is dominated by thick, usually sweet, sauces.

And that said, my favorite place has to be China One next to Publix in Meridianville. My only criticisms are that there are too many onions in the Mongolian beef (or chicken) and that the lo mein has too much flavor. Their soups are great, though really I'd say the eggdrop sometimes is a bit heavy on the corn starch. The last soup listed on in the soup area of the menu is great, if you like vegetables. The chicken on a a stick and that soup are my favorite.

My favorite Asian restaurant overall is Five A's, which is Persian, off 53. And though I've been there a handfull of times, I still have no idea exactly where it is. I blame my gps.

I did not care about 88 Buffet. But I went there again during the weekend, with other people. Now I can say, I do not like it.

Didn't 88 Buffet recently get a bad health rating for like, keeping raw chicken at 72 degrees.

(time passes)

Found the article from January 23rd:

Quote:
88 Buffet at 6125 University Drive in Huntsville: Score of 79
  • The dishwasher was not sanitizing the dishes and utensils.
  • Cutting boards were in poor repair and a milk carton was used as a scoop and it was not clean around the top.
  • Ready to eat potentially hazardous food was not labeled in the cooler.
  • Beef was 54F and milk was 74F.

5A's is awesome...but it is more Greek/Persian than Asian. IMHO, their gyros are much better than Papa Gyro's. The feisty feta dip is also amazing...
