Remington Arms moving 2,000+ jobs from NY to Alabama - Yellowhammer News

Gun maker Remington Outdoor Co. to open manufacturing plant, employ about 2,000 in Huntsville (updated) | AL.com

The biggest ? will be how many of the NY employees who are offered the relocation will actually make that move. There is conflicting information on that as well, as in one article it states this will not affect their NY location.

From some of the things that have been stated in most articles, this seems more like "expansion" than relocation as they have cited high demand and needing to increase production to keep up as one reason for this new location.

Remington should make some bumper stickers for the gun people around here that say "Buy Local."

All this talk about Remington made me think about another company in North Alabama. The company is Ultratec Special Effects (formerly Luna Tech). A friend of mine was killed there by an explosion 15 years ago.

I very much doubt the "2000" jobs figure considering Remington doesn't even have that many working at their primary factory (Ilion, NY = about 1200 employees). In the short term (<5 years), it is just an expansion. If things go from bad to worse in New York (SAFE Act and other such nanny state nonsense), it could eventually become a full relocation.

I refuse to get excited until it actually becomes official, possibly tomorrow night. If this is true, I may not sleep for days out of sheer joy.

Christmas Comes Early In Ilion, New York: Remington Outdoor Company Avoids A Political Fire Sale - Forbes

Interesting article about Remington with some history of its NY location.

They should be announcing this today, hopefully then we will know more of the "details" and not so much speculation/rumors.

It will still be good for this area, regardless. NY is being run by the insane asylum, IMO...from SAFE to Bloomberg's stupid soda ban. They are doing no favors for their state.
