Pro Soccer on the way.

https://www.mlsnextpro.com/news/nash...huntsville-ala

Huntsville, Ala. (July 12, 2022) – The City of Huntsville and Nashville Soccer Club announced today the launch of their MLS NEXT Pro team in Huntsville, Ala. which will debut in 2023 playing at Joe Davis Stadium.

“Soccer has consistently been one of the most popular and fastest growing sports in our region,” said the City of Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle. “When the City decided to renovate Joe Davis Stadium and convert its playing field to multi-use fields, we hoped pro soccer would find a way here. Today, we are proud to deliver this exciting sports amenity to our community.”

In partnership with the City of Huntsville, Nashville SC’s MLS NEXT Pro team will bring professional soccer closer to fans and supporters in North Alabama. The team will make Joe Davis Stadium its home once its renovation is complete in May 2023. When it opens, the 6,000-seat facility will have additional spaces to accommodate groups for its various events. In addition to soccer, its multi-use fields will be available for football, ultimate frisbee, rugby and lacrosse, and other non-sporting events. Joe Davis Stadium is located in John Hunt Park at 3125 Leeman Ferry Road, Huntsville, AL 35801.

Adjacent to the stadium, another development is planned by Crunkelton, including a hotel, apartments/condos, and shopping areas. From the renditions, it appeared that the hotel would be overlooking the stadium.

Not sure if the development was mentioned here, on Huntsville Business Journal, or elsewhere.

Having worked in soccer for 20+ years, and having left the business 7 years ago... this may peak my interest in soccer in the US again. Maybe.

I stand corrected - looks like MLS is pulling teams out of USL and all their reserve teams will be in MLS Next. So will be a reserve team... I'd rather the USL Championship and have a rivalry with Birmingham and Memphis, but at least it is something.

I believe we’ll land a Major Sports team in the next 7 + years. Our continued growth will make so much possible that isn’t today.

It would be a lot easier to attract such teams if the city was more easily accessible, i.e., a decent Interstate/freeway system. Going north or south requires a bit of a drive to get to 65, but east/west is a real pain.

Heard just a few minutes ago that Redstone passed the environmental assessment with no issues, so moving Space Command here is a virtual certainty. We're going to need better roads sooner rather than later.

Well you all Huntsville-ers can have it. I'm glad I lived here before the big boom goes bang.

One of many large apartment complexes under construction and planned is open.

A new $67 million apartment complex has opened in North Huntsville.
The Anthem Apartments, on 740 Plummer Road, is a project of contractor Capstone Building Corp., and developers EYC Companies and The Kalikow Group.
The complex covers 507,943 square feet, with 312 garden-style multifamily units and 48 garage units. There are 94 single family cottages and duplexes, with front porches, backyards and detached garages.
