The FBI was going to move out of downtown DC over 10 years ago and they still don’t know where they will even move to let alone even started to build new HQ yet.

Yeah, I heard about that sometime recently. Not sure what's wrong with the building they currently have. Maybe they should just move the entire HQ to Huntsville. Plenty of room on Redstone and it's reasonably secure.

I think I recall the Navy moving NAVSEA out of Crystal City, but can't remember where they went. That took a while as well.

The Hoover building (fbi) is very old and has been retrofitted again and again. Leaking basement, old windows, all with dated layout for a headquarters. The security structure is dated and limited in options to upgrade. The maintenance costs are extremely high trying to repair after repair. Parking areas underground are narrow and low ceilings.

Decades ago the FBI outgrew their current building. Many employees were scattered in various other buildings in the area. The FBI wanted a new larger building to consolidate all their employees into one building. Unfortunately, for them Congress decided the answer was to split up the headquarters. However, that still doesn't solve the initial problem of the deteriorating condition of the current building.

The location of the new headquarters for the FBI seems to be just as political as the Space Command. It appears that Biden has his hand in that also.

The FBI in Huntsville is often referred to as HQ2, but that's more of a tongue in cheek thing than actuality, I think. I don't remember hearing a big deal being made of it when the FBI presences was increased here - seemed to have been done without much fanfare. It's a pretty big deal - 4500 FBI people here is about twice the number of actual NASA civil servants here.

Based on my understanding, FBI to build out 'FBI South' and relocate a number of staff to it. Some relocations to be temporary while others be permanent. Rebuild JEH or build new elsewhere in MD or VA and then redistribute staff between 'FBI North' and 'FBI South'.

Is the Space Command relocation just going to fade away with it remaining in Colorado Springs? There doesn't seem to be much action on it now, other than a letter from Dale Strong and a speech from Tuberville.

There is more chatter on this on Linked In. On Linked In, there a few career Space Command employees, who live in Colorado Springs, Monument, and banter non stop about how this or that study was incorrect.
Jaded perceptions but that is all. No actual progress.

It still seems the topic will die on the vine. Clearly the status quo is working for the pro-Colorado crowd so inaction benefits their objective. Maybe there is behind the scenes activity to start building in either location but it certainly seems nothing public will be announced now until after the 2024 election. Heck, that’s only 18 months from now. “We can wait” is probably what is being mentioned in Congress.
