I'm not going to indulge in a us v. them dialogue. I think you may have missed the point. FL was paying $19.hr. less for a mid-management job in a non-unionn print shop. It wasn't any more a liveable wage then than $8.00/hr. is today.

Smaller companies could generally have smaller pay.
Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun Times are pretty big newspaper companies.
Also you have to consider Disposible income.
For example lets just use 100,000$ a year as a base.
if i move from Chicago to Indianapolis my cost of living drops 25% so if i made 100,000$ a year in Chicago i could make only 75,000 a year and sustain the same standard of living. But the average wage in Indianapolis is only 8% less than compared to Chicago.
Hence why i always look at DISPOSIBLE income over everything cause when you boil it down taxes deductions etc thats what matters cause thats what you take home.
Flordia probably has a lower cost of living than Chicago so that has to be taken into account too.

Question, if your mate was making what 21 an hour in Chi, how can a FL employer pay $19 less? That's legally impossible for US citizens.

Mississippi isn't bad because it's a RTW state, they have too many other issues contributing to its relative mediocre status and abysmal ranking in everything.

Will RTW be a boom, only time will tell. Will it be a bust, only time will tell. Will employers just start chopping salaries, NO, that's fear mongering at its best. Will they start laying off people just because. Well they can and always have Indiana is an At-Will state so that doesn't change union or not, RTW or not.

Hoosier state is at the bottom of the totem pole not being a RTW compared to its RTW counterparts. Either way it's passed, like it or hate it, it's time to move on as time doesn't stop and life goes on. My father worked 35 years in a steel mill so I have a lot of respect for the union especially with regards to working conditions. If it's a good union, people will stay union. If it's a bad union people will opt out. It's that simple and if they opt out, that particular union has no one to blame but itself since they didn't do what was necessary to keep their membership happy.

Pro RTW organizations bought of the GOP JUST LIKE the union bought out the Democrats. Both sides are equally guilty of that.

Your post is a single anecdote, and not credible. $2.38/hr is far below minimum wage and could not have been a real wage unless you are talking about somethat happened before 1981 (when the minimum wage was $3.15).

I think workers should have the right to be in a union, or NOT be in a union. This law gives Hoosiers the second choice, one they didn't have before.
