Jackson Jambalaya: CL Creates Jackson Homicide Map

I've read on here that, "murder may be up, but other crime is down." Don't believe it, "other" crime is down because many people don't even report property crime and when do, JPD may write auto burglary up as vandalism. Murder is the one thing they can't misreport, although a guy I sent to HS with died in a seedy hotel on Hwy 80. It was written up as a suicide, but the family is convinced it was murder.

The misreporting of crime goes on everywhere, not just Jackson, and has been a common practice for many years.

Yeah anybody who believes that murder is alone, and comes without other violent crimes, is a Grade A moron.

I would think crime statistics would be really tough to measure because I would guess that there likely isn't all that much consistency from city to city and county to county. Law enforcement can find themselves under pressure from politicians to lower the crime rate, which could influence the way they handle charges(s) for certain offenses and impact crime statistics. Likewise, prosecutors can negotiate with defendants and their attorneys to allow them to plead guilty to a lesser charge(s) than what were originally brought against them, which also would influence the statistics.

It makes it difficult to put too much faith in the statistics that you see because you never know what kind of manipulation\downgrading charges\plea bargaining might be going on in a particular city or county.

You can't really fake murders. I would say those stats are 100% accurate.

Actually you can fake murder. Humorously speaking.

Some of the early reports ( news articles) that reviewed Jackson's homicides laat year continue to state 84 when it's 78 homicides. Also, Individuals that dies of past gunshot complications gets added into the current year as well. I think a neighborhood map like other large cities display would even be a clearer picture along with a timeframe of stats.

This happened in New Orleans. Political pressure from the mayor at the time not report all murders.
