I spoke with the Director of a Department over the phone. Interview is set up for Tuesday AM. I did not think to ask about hours of the position (clinical) but it could potentially be a deal breaker as commute times may not match the hours of the position start time.
The conversation on the phone lasted an hour. He likes my skill set and the position is at a prestigious university hospital setting....
How should I bring this question up and negotiate hours if needed?

In Advance Thanks.
Make sure to ask during the interview. Be honest about the dealbreaker. Why string them along if you wouldn't work under those circumstances? No one appreciates having their time wasted.
You simply need to bring it up. I do not understand what you mean when you state that the hours may not match your commute time. Do you have issues related to child care, public transportation, etc.?

Since hospitals are operating 24/7 people are needed for all shifts. Coming in new you are not likely to get the best choice of hours to work. At the interview, it may come up. They may ask a question like "would you be able to work any of the 3 shifts?" If not, you would just ask at the end, usually you will be asked if you ave any questions.
I would not discuss this ahead of time. Do the best you can in the interview and when it does come up hopefully they will be impressed with you and be more cooperative about the hours.

They worked 7am-7pm, or 7pm-7am. That would work for you, but I guess other hospitals and even departments may be different.
The interview went very well. I asked and was pleasantly surprised that I could set my own hours. I met all the teams in the IR Cath Lab, Surgery and EP labs. I know these areas very well. They said it was a new position and hopefully start date would be before the 1st of the year.
Director told me that there would be two more interviews one with the Manager and the other with the Clinical Team. That was one week ago. I have had any contact from her since. Its the waiting right...>?
